Wow, there are really a lot of people here that want to knock that Probstein down. The nerve of that guy running a successful business.

  • yes, if you look closely at his picture, he used an orange towel for the back drop....

this technique yields huge results...especially if you use a camera instead of a high rez scanner....scanners are a thing of the past...

we are actively trying to purchase one of these " orange towels " so we can compete better....

    in the meantime, thanks

and I wonder how good this one will look with an orange towel back drop

Do I detect a note of sarcasm in that post, Rick?

  • Orange towel or high resolution scanner, the reality is: the unknown seller did a better job.

  • Guys, why do you think there are so many BIN's. There was a buyer out there that wanted the card badly, and probably did not want to wait for a good deal. It happens all the time.

    We have a winner !

That was exactly why I posted this. Look, I have cards at Probstein123 right now, but I also just sold cards on ebay for $35-55 each that would have gone for $10 at
the most if I had auctioned them. There is a guy who is building a set who will just pay whatever he has to.

I think sellers like Levi do better in the long run.

This is why I had Lee sell my cards. He set BINs and we just sat back and waited. If you are a patient seller I think BINs are the best. Yes, auctions CAN yield more but they also CAN, and often do, yield less.

It wasn't that either. It was 3x (or 4x) "as much as", not "more".

LMFAO!! He didn't even get a good deal on his!! I can see if you bought something very cheaply!! Some people need to take a basic course in economics - buy low, sell high! Not buy high, sell higher!
  • Wow, I thought it was buy high, sell low and make up for it with volume!image
I'm curious to see if he sells it.

That's the risk of the $0.99 starting bid auction. It's great for buyers, not always great for sellers. For cards with volatile price history or are thinly traded, low starting bid formats aren't so great.

This is why you should start your auctions at or near what you'd otherwise set as your buy-it-now price. You pay higher % in final value fees on BIN as well, so may as well just start your auctions higher. You either sell for the same price as BIN or you may even get a little more in the chance that 2 or more people bid, plus you save on fees. I think one of the only reasons to start an auction at $0.99 is if you are worried about listing fees (only list the higher start price ones as your 50 free per month or when a listing special comes around).
