Collectors- how much did you spend on slabbing costs in 2012?

Are you spending more on slabbing? less on slabbing? Staying the same? What percentage of your collecting budget is going towards plastication?

    1. more since last year
    2. small percentage going towards plastication mainly due to the low value of items and or light to moderate cleaning on some

Still made a profit on the coins I sent in when they went back out. Got lucky on a couple this year.

BTW sent in the replacements for my set today.image

    I spent $2,185.30
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

$950, with a chunk of that being from at-show same day grading.

I think i'm wondering if collectors are spending 1/4 or 1/3 of their collecting money on slabbing, and why if it's that much. Reselling? Protecting investment for your eventual heirs?

I spent $0, but I did buy some coins already slabbed. Main reason is having been burned one too many times buying raw.

Maybe $150, plus shipping. $ spent for potential upgrades. To je govno.

I quickly counted 10 submissions, having a total of 60 coins...

Less than 2011, by a whole lot....

Zero, unless you count paying to have a coin crossed into the "right" plastic or paying to have a coin sent to CAC to make sure the plastic has all the bells and whistles. In that case...zero, I think. But I have been guilty of doing those things in the past.

Looks like just over 10k here, and getting more ticked off everytime they bag as questionable color a coin I pulled from a dansco or a whitman with screaming rainbows.

In fairness, the question was asked of "collectors" not dealers. Someone is venting. image

Between the two services about 16k , but that also includes a few customer's coins as well a couple of dealers who are not authorized to submit.

I just had my 1993 $50 AGE PCGS MS69 Partial Tilted Collar Mint Error re-slabbed at ANA in a new pronged holder so I could fully see the rim/edge.

Spent $0 in '12, but always have a group of coins I've been meaning to have slabbed, so may do so in '13.

Back in '10 I had some pieces slabbed at PCGS to the tune of $300, and all came back as expected in nice graded holders -- of course,
they were just "stuff" that anyone can get at any time, ridiculously overpriced, ''easy" pieces like a 1909-S VDB in AU-55, a '14-D in VF-25
and an 1867/7 Indian cent in AU-58, certainly nothing a truly advanced collector who runs with "the big boys" would sully their
    manicured hands with.

    Great question!

Not sure if I'm embarrassed, but a lot more than I thought.

I joined PCGS in 2011, and only slabbed two coins other than my four "free" ones.

In 2012, I sent in 92! Most were economy, but still, that's probably around $2,000, and I'm just an average casual collector.

Maybe I need to join a "PCGS Submitters Anonymous" chapter..................

    Over $3,700...dang...that's a lot. 220 coins total.

The reason being that I have been "flipping" a large percentage of the coins I submit to cover the cost of the ones I keep. I track each submission meticulously and have definitely come out ahead on my submission costs. But am still surprised it was that much.

For slabbing, I did not spend as much as I would have liked. 2013 will be better!
