Very cool, "blu". Your site has some nice shots. Although, the shot you picked above as an example isn't good for showing luster.

blu62vette, In hand are the centers on this $1 supposed to be white or yellowish gold image

I'm asking as I experimented with CFL's in 2010 as seen below.

Even with the white balance adjusted they insinuate color that isn't present.

The top pics are CFL's (Sorry I didn't retain a non cropped obverse pic) the lower is Halogen which is how this Feuchtwanger looks in hand.

All of mine are with CFLs. Here's a medal that turned out quite nice.

I only use CFL. Bright and relatively cool compared to incandescent.

The Morgan above is not white, the color is accurate. I have seen issues with yellow golden cast on peace and walkers. I also like them because they are cool and easy to work around.

    A few more examples.

  • For better or worse, all these were done with CFL. The certified ones were shot through the slab. Still working on perfecting. Sometimes getting the correct lighting angles on red copper is tough. I use two bulbs, copy stand, 100mm Canon Macro and a T3i. The CFL I believe is equivalent to 100 watts each.

One thing you might not know...white LED bulbs are actually fluorescent lamps. In a CFL, there is an emitter that produces UV light, which strikes the fluorescent material on the inner surface of the CFL tube, which then fluoresces broad spectrum white light. In a white LED, the LED itself emits UV or near UV light. The LED is coated with a blob of a fluorescent material similar to the coating on the CFL, and this blob then fluoresces broad spectrum white light. Now, there are some high efficiency white LEDs that have tri-color LED emitters and no fluorescent blobs. The intensity of the 3 colors determines the color temperature or hue of the light emitted. But these are not common, and more expensive than white LEDs.
