If there is only one I hope it is classified as a pattern and then is smuggled out of Federal Reserve or whereever it will be deposited. Like the 1974 Aluminum cent(s).

Better yet, why limit it to just one?? A new debt crisis commemorative coin each year.

We should manufacture 17 coins... Then give them to china and then demonitize them... It would be legendary!
WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!

Doesn't Congress have to authorize all coinage?

I suppose if some politicians wanted to get cutsie with the law then I suppose Congress could arrest an prosecute ole Timmy for counterfeiting or at least get him on tax evasion.

It's a red herring. We've been down this road before. First, they'd make it out of platinum and that's all fine and dandy - but the next thing you know, they would be making these out of zinc-plated copper, and hoping that nobody would notice.

one way to default on the debt.

Governments can print currency. Only the people can print faith in it — and they’re running low on ink.

Since we are exploring dubious pathways why don't we just monetize monopoly money.

Will we have an official thread with all of us listing our order numbers? Somehow, I don't think my AMEX can take that large of a hit

We would definitely be on our way to $100,000 Big Macks and that is not even upsizing the order.

Can the mint produce coins with no intent of putting them in circulation? Imagine if they did sell a few, I wonder what the premium would be.

A $Trillion here, a $Trillion there. Before too long, it starts adding up to real money.

Maybe D Carr could come up with a trillion dollar fantasy coin. Who knows, maybe Timmy-boy might use it.

I am sure he did. I think Ben Bernanke gave him a temporary loan at zero interest.

Yes, he did. Along with $15k in interest but no penalties.

I'm considering it. Perhaps a mintage of (20) "Trillion Dollar National Debt Payoff" coins.
This would be part of my Hard Times Tokens series. But I've got to finish my Fiscal Cliff piece first. Or maybe combine them.

You may have to "up" the mintage to 25.image

Since we can't go out and find a trillion dollars worth of platinum to make up such a coin, what's the point? Might as well make it a $1 TRILL "wooden nickel" and save on
a lot of mining costs. If it were signed by a few hundred celebrities, maybe it could be worth something some day.

It would take over 100 years to mine the platinum needed to make the coin. And by that time, the $1 TRILL coin might be able to buy a burger, fries, and coke.
Heck, by that time, we probably would have discovered how to convert pink slime into platinum. image

How long before the Chinese counterfeit one? If it's submitted to our hosts, will they receive the $10,000,000,000 in ultra-rarities tax (+$18 for First Strike™, of course)?

We should return it to swampland and grow tobacco on the rest.

We can keep the Washington Monument to honor the man and remember our error. Move the Smithsonian and we'll be back to "normalcy" in mere days.

Let's show DC what a depression really looks like.

It's not like anyone would pay a nickel for it.

The Federal Reserve should just print off one of these notes and pay off our national debt in full.
We wold even have a bit over 83 Trillion Dollars left over to re-fund Social Security and Medicare.
    Problem solved!

When there are more blue collar jobs than white collar jobs the books will balance again. We've lost manufacturing.
Would be kind of nice to have the largest platinum coin. Made to order. What are those giant gold coins worth which Canada and Australia (i think) made ? They've increased in value and interest, by a good margin. The idea for the coin seems based in logic, but to come to fruition would be insanity. Buyer beware ! The market could drop. Are we going to hold the U.S. Treasury hostage for Congress outspending them ?
Our leaders are, at least, critically thinking. This is good. Just too bad we drag it into numismatics, as some things are outlawed here.

Practice makes perfect & nobody is perfect. So, practice being nobody and be perfect !
