1937 Cent smaller than normal

ronzonnie

I have a 1937 cent that is smaller than normal, has a sound like zinc when dropped and the wheat stocks are right to the edge of the penny. Does anyone have any info?

Tried to upload a couple of pics but it is not adding the file... oh well!

Struck on foreign planchet?

is it the same size of a dime ?

some ground down pennies to dime size for vending machines when coins were
accepted for the size instead of today for the coin's singature

here is an article on CNN that President Obama pardons a Ex-Marine that did this to pennies back in 1963

It's almost impossible to tell without a picture but if its smaller than a normal cent and looks a bit "dissolved" then it was probably in acid for a while. Just a guess.

Yep, we need a pic.

A lot of penny's were subjects of High School science lab projects too.

ricko

We need pictures to evaluate the coin.... could be many things, from post mint damage to counterfeit... Cheers, RickO

That is an amazing story.

Some people deserve a pardon.
