Collectible question-Looking for advice-Pics added

OK so I've got a question that has absolutely zero to do with cards but I thought someone here might at least have an idea on what I could do with these. I moved into my current house about a year and a half ago. During closing the previous owners had told us they didn't want anything they left (which was awesome considering one thing they left was an operational riding mower). While moving in I came across some interesting stuff....like a very old desk, some old decorations, etc. In a corner sat two very large unopened boxes. Both boxes were the same and mentioned some sort of "display" on the outside of them. Of course curiousity got the best of me and I opened one of them up to see what it was. What I found was pretty cool. The box that I opened contains two Pringles potato chip store display boxes from the early 70's. I've left the other box unopened as the writing on both boxes is the same. There is a shipping date on the first one of I think 1972 or 1973...I can't remember which.

I did plenty of research on the internet to see if I could find someone interested in these. My search left me with no answers. I then contacted the company via their website which turned out to also be a dead end.

Does anybody know where I could go with these? If I had my own grocery store or something like that I might keep them for show, but I don't see myself ever becoming a grocerer.

Edit: OK so went out and took one out of the open box so I could post some pics. It turns out there are actually 4 of these in each box. It also turns out they are window displays...the outside of the box says "Broken window displays" but I can't see anything broken about them. They stand between 3 1/2 and 4' tall. From the looks of them you can do a couple of different things with them. There are sticky attachment things on the back of it in case someone wants to put them flat on a wall or something. There are also sticky attachment things on the inside of them....it looks like they are there in case someone would rather put something tubular inside of them to give the appearance of an actual giant can of pringles. Pretty darn cool!

I'm also posting a pic of the date on the UPS sticker: April of 1972 in case you can't see it in the pic.

Thanks for the advice guys...I'll probably eventually put them up on the Bay I just didn't know if there was a more direct market for this type of thing.

I would list them on Ebay like mentioned above. Sell one as an unopened/sealed display, and the other as opened, but stress it was opened to find out the contents and take pictures. I'd throw .99 auction on them and be sure to calculate shipping correctly, as someone may want them double boxed. Good luck!

  • If anyone's interested or has any clue at all who might be I should be listing the first box of these displays tonight on the Bay....I haven't decided on what to do with the 2nd box. I might leave it where it is until I find something better to do with it.
