Post a picture of your favorite coin purchased in 2012.

SkyManSkyMan Posts: 9,493 ✭✭✭✭✭
Post a picture of your favorite coin purchased in 2012. It would also be nice if you would give a brief explanation of why it was your favorite coin purchase. For example, for some people it might be finding an extremely rare coin and/or die marriage, for others it might be the full strike on a normally mushy date/mm, for others it might be best bang for the buck, for others it might be their most expensive purchase... whatever it is for you, it'd be nice to find out.

All in all, I think this one is probably my favorite purchase for the year. I'm trying to put together a 1940 - 1964 toned set of Washingtons in (predominantly) MS66. This one is a PCGS MS66. The reason that it is my all around favorite coin for the year is that it is very clean for the grade and has spectacular toning for the date/mm.

Best Wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year to You and Yours!!!

Happy New Year to you too, Skyman. And everyone else.

This may be my favorite purchase. It is an 1807 O.112 large stars...the 50/20 variety which, oddly enough, is not really 5 punched over 2, but instead 5 punched over an upside down 5. PCGS AU58.

Not a particularly scarce coin as an R1. But 1807's are thought to be a little scarcer than published numbers and are always in demand. This one has pretty album toning with blue and gold rims and orange and grey centers. Nicely struck with pleasant surfaces and no distractions. And it fits my AU set nicely.

Love that '44-S, Skyman! Very eye appealing.
    Lance.

Not sure if this is my favorite, but it is certainly in the top 3.

Happy and safe new years to everyone. I relly did not purchase very many coins in 2012 so I guess this will have to be the one. I like this coin for several reasons, it is a perfect red just as it left the mint no distracting tarnish. Second its a hammered strike with no chicken scratches on the shoulder as so often seen with Lincolns. And third I submitted and received a green bean, which is somewhat tough for copper at the 67 level.

This is definately my favorite coin purchased in 2012. It has been the one coin that I felt that I might not ever be able to get, especially in a grade that would go with the rest of my set.Not on my budget. It was the most expensive coin by far that I've ever bought and I love that it resides in an older holder, because I know that it has not been messed with for a long time if ever.

Looking back, it's been a busier numismatic year than I realized!

Favorites are hard to choose. How about a CWT from the Tanenbaum collection - a favorite since they bring back good memories of him and I had to wait a long time for them to come available.

My policy of not posting a coin before I receive it in hand is getting very irritating now... (although not quite as irritating as the horrendously slow processes of some international auction houses)

I guess my 2012 favorite purchase is this 1842 NM, PCGS 35 Seated Dollar. I needed a decent looking mid-grade one for my type set.

MFH, I wanted to thank you for the chance to ogle it while you paid as that's like eyeball dynamite in hand.

Definitely within the top 2 MS64 Barber Dimes I've ever seen and more eye appeal then some MS67's.

I think this one would be my favorite if such a title could be applied:

After buying and then trying to "resell" hundreds of 1988 Proof sets, the losses were simply getting overwhelming! When I happened across this one, it was a no-brainer, money saving proposition from a well known variety attributer!

    Maybe in 2013, I'll happen across a Silver 1992-S?

Bought and sold quite a few coins during 2012, but after looking back at them all, and even though I know I overpaid for them both I am glad to have added to my 1909 set by upgrading my 1909-S USPI Centavo and finally getting a decent 1909-S USPI 10 Centavos... just need to get a 20 Centavos now and I'll have all of the 1909 USPI coins image Not the best pics I've ever done, but here they are:
