My White Whale for 2013 is a Kobe Bryant 1996 E-X2000 #30 graded PSA 10. It's the last card I need for my Kobe PSA 10 rookie set. It will probably take me the whole year to save up for that one. lol

Some other cards I'm hoping to add in 2013 are...

Larry Bird 1992 Upper Deck #33 PSA 10
Steve Nash 1996 Topps Chrome #182 PSA 10
Lebron James 2003 Bowman Chrome #123 PSA 10

    << <i>1.) Finish my raw 70, 71, 73, and 74 sets. About 200 cards away from each.

2.) Continue to add to my Post War HOF rookie set registry occasionally.

3.) Upgrade some cards in my 59 and 75 set. >>

I remember working on those early 70's sets in the 90's. Those gray 70's and Black beauty 71's are a real challenge to find in decent shape. I was obsessed with my 75's also. I had my best set then my second best and then the third set was all the cards that were replaced in the first two sets. Good luck and have fun with those
Interested in 60's and 70's psa and raw star and hof cards

This thread comes up every year and each time I put a bunch of stuff down and never complete one thing. I started thinking last October, what do I want to be when I grow up. I figured out that I was not as happy collecting cards because I had to much stuff and trying to go down to many directions. I just felt overwhelmed.

So, I decided to start selling. I sold most of my un-opened packs (kept a few that were toughies) but kept my sealed boxes. Started selling a lot of my graded cards as well. All the while, trying to figure out what will bring the fun back to my life in the hobby. So here is what I have:

-Continue to sell off a big portion of my collection including most of my graded cards so I actually see what I really have.

-Quit buying PSA graded cards (please don't ban me image) There are three reasons for this. One, get back to my roots. 30 years ago when I bought a Bench, Rose or Mantle, I could touch it, feel it, and even smell it (yeah, I am a little weird but I love the smell of vintage cards). Secondly, I started to get sucked into the registry sets and I didn't like it. I found myself more focused on what place I was in versus actually enjoying the card. I didn't find this truly collecting but more of a competition and ego. Thirdly, on my quest to complete a registry set, I would find myself spending $40 for a PSA 9 vintage Reds common that I could find raw for $3 or $4. I just came to the realization this made no sense to me.

-As Scott (OT) stated, I would like to continue to help other collectors finish their sets. I helped 3 people this year and really was a rewarding expierience for me.

-Continue to run the BBCE box breaks. I really do love doing these (yeah, I know I am weird).

-Obtain 1 sealsed box of 1980-85 baseball (wax and cello), 80-86 FB (wax and cello), 80-87 Bskt (not including 86) and 80-86 OPC hockey.

-Add to my collection of empty wax/cello boxes. I am starting to really enjoy this alot. I am trying to figure out a way to display.

-Focus on picking up NM to MT centered raw cards. I know that my be tough but it will be fun to try.

-Put together raw FB sets from 80-86 from the group breaks.

-Finally, start picking up some T206 cards. I have always loved these cards. I really believe they are more art than cards. I don't plan on going crazy but will try and maybe pick up 3 or 4 a month. Will go raw on some but will also pick up SGC graded as well (please don't ban me). I love the way the T206's look in the SGC holders better.

    - 1967 Seaver PSA 5 - This has been on my list for a few years, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

This will give me 30 key cards from 1957 thru 1985 Topps Baseball.

    - Finish my top 18 for 1962 Topps football. I need 14 more.

    - 1965 Namath in PSA 5 (probably won't happen) and the following in PSA 6 Biletnikoff ,Warfield, Lebeau, Dawson and Blanda.

    - 1981 Topps Montana PSA 8 - I have been procrastinating because it is so easy to find.

Before we start making goals for 2014 I thought it would be interesting to see how everyone did with their goals for 2013. I thought I was on this thread but couldn't find my post. I think I must have put down my collecting goals on another site. I will try and cut and paste my post from January if I can find it. My memory is probably off but I think my goals were in some order:

--to get a 1980-81 Topps Basketball Wax Box--still working on this as the only legitimate boxes I have seen for sale were on this BST board and sold out before I could get one.

--buy a high grade Magic/Bird/Erving--purchased a BVG 9 early in the year, but I regret it now as I wish I would have held out for a PSA 9. I will likely try to sell the BGS 9 sometime this year to help (partially) fund a PSA 9.

--continue making progress on my 1961 Fleer Basketball PSA 7 or better set-- Definitely made progress there. I am up to 47/66 on the set (45 PSA 7 or better and 2 6's).

I don't remember if I had any other goals--my guess would be to work on my 1986 Fleer basketball set as well. I made no progress on that set as I got fatigued from doing that one.

As it turned out 2013 was the year of unopened as I found a passion for that and quickly assembled a small stash. I also got sidetracked on a few side collections, starting a small player collection for Andrew Luck, Lebron James as well as getting some HOF 49er RC's in PSA 9 (Montana and Rice). Looking forward to 2014!

Great reminder, Steve. I vaguely remember what mine were, and I know for a fact that I did not follow a single one of them. Not sure how much weight I'm going to be putting into 2014 goals either. image

I want to complete my 71 topps set in nm shape 95 cards to go.
Add a few cards and upgrades to my 61 topps set

Well I see I didn't finish again. I did pickup some 61's but only half of the 71 that I needed.
I am down to 41 cards for my 71 set and 14 upgrades. Well maybe I will finish it in 2014.
