What dealer's inventories am I overlooking?

2ltdjorn2ltdjorn Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭✭
When I have down time, which is becoming less frequent, I enjoy browsing dealers inventories. I have a few that I check in on periodically, but really feel like I am missing out on a lot.

Currently I browse...

Northeast Numismatics
Eagle Eye Rare Coins
The Penny Lady
Coin Rarities Online
HLRC
Mark Feld
Doug Winters Numismatics
And a few favorite sellers on Ebay.... Juliancoin, Kryptonitecomics, Great Toning, Fredweinberg, Coinethics, CNIcoins, brlllantcents,

So please help me build my list... Also if you have a Ebay ID let me know and I will add you to my favorite sellers
WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!

I always check Angel Dee's too. Can always check the BST too!

Feel free to check my eBay if you like as well! Always willing to do much better on most of the prices on deals done through the forum.

It really depends on what sort of stuff you're looking for. Almost any dealer can have tempting items at times. Not all dealers are created equal in terms of pickiness, customer service, likeablility, etc. etc. YMMV. I like Tom Bush's site, Gary Adkins, Pinnacle Rarities, Numismatic Americana, JJ Teaparty, and sometimes David Lawrence. I'm not a fan of the pseudo-auction format at DL's site, but they sometimes have tempting material. Larry Shapiro and Don Rinkor are great for dollars, Walkers, Frankies, and a few other odds & ends. I just bought my first coin from kryptonite, Disruptek has some nice stuff on eBay at times. Russ Agustin has some nice gold and a few other type coins, one of my favorite Peace Dollars came from JR Tiso. Mark Feld, Eagle Eye, the Penny Lady, HLRC are of course excellent.

I find the more I look, the more time I waste. One dealer I know and I guy I trust at Heritage will contact me if they have something I think I like (which happens, albeit infrequently). Otherwise, I look at Heritage Signature sales and ask my contacts to do lot viewing. This works for me.

A lot depends on how picky you are for what you collect, and how easy is it to find what you are looking for. If you are looking for material that isn't all that hard to find, and / or are willing to pay full retail price, you won't have a problem getting said material from many dealers, a number of whom were mentioned earlier.

I find the more I look, the more time I waste.

There are two schools of thought here:

    1. If you throw enough crap against the wall, some of it will stick.

    2. Less is more.

I generally fall into the second camp though on occasion will toss the crap, too. image

AUCM and Harlan J Berk. The latter more so for non-US but they've recently had some nice US coins as well. Rare coin wholesalers has a nice inventory to browse but I've never purchased anything from them personally.

I also definitely recommend Collectors Corner. I had some issues a while back with responsiveness that ended up being an issue on the Collectors Corner website that they've fixed. It's a very easy way to search for complete words or partial words (like "ton" for toned or toning) and you can create want lists that email you when new coins match from any dealer.
