Do you think this 1951 Franklin will pass the Cameo test?

Wabbit2313Wabbit2313 Posts: 7,268 ✭✭✭✭✭

Found an unopened set hidden away for 40 years!

When I took this pic, the mirrors were picking up the sun reflecting off something. (It looks cool!) I don't think it was my head cause I still have hair!! Cheers!

Looks to me like it has the frost. How deep the mirrors are will be the desiding factor (they do look good in the pic to me).

Looks like it could pass the Cameo PCGS test with that much frost.

    A very cool find indeed!

Cameo? Yes. Those hairlines will keep it to PR64 I think.

I think it should go CAM. Are the lines behind the portrait stray lint? The lines across the devices appear to be from die polish so they are fine.

    Absolutely. Great pic, too.

Looks Cameo to me - maybe even deep cameo. Hard to tell for sure from the photos.

I think the harilines behind the portrait will keep it from a high numerical grade. Just how high will depend on how noticeable they are in hand.

    Nice find!

    Yes - beautiful coin.
I have a soft spot for Franklin halves - back in the 50s I got one each week for my allowance.
50¢ was pretty good money for an 8 year old in those days!

PF64 Cam never a DCAM I've made a few 51's in DCAM, and this one isn't there.

I yield to your experience, but I tend to agree. For educational purposes, what do you think is the CAM limiting factor(s)? To me it looks like lower front of the bust and the bottom of the bell?

    Thanks for the replys.

I think it has a shot at DCAM, and hairlines seem to be a necessary evil on this date.

At any rate, Ben is on his way to PCGS tomorrow, along with my 1880-O Morgan that I solicited opinions on last week. I am putting him and his Morgan girlfriend in Secure Plus.

    Cheers!

The hollow of the check and lower right front portion of the bust will limit DCAM. A little hard to tell from the pics, but I'd be shocked this coin DCAM's
