Mandate Registry Set now complete

I know this series doesn't interest most of you but my feeble attempt to put it together in mint state is done - took just over 10 years image

Last time I put one of these sets together was in early 1980's* and subsequently sold intact to Howard Berlin (who authored the comprehensive reference on this series).

These are just really tough to put together in all dates.

I'm gonna concentrate on other loves now like eye appeal correctly graded image European eye candy and what not...

*edited to correct dates; twas early 80's ..how time has flown.

Marc - I tip my hat to you. Amazing set. These are very challenging to attain in such high grades. Significant part of history that has shaped the middle east as we know it today.

Congratulations on an outstanding set, Marc. It must have been a labor of love (and patience!). There is some interesting history behind those coins. I was just reading about the Dec. 19 sale of the Kagan-Maremba collection. Too bad it was sold as a single lot. I wonder if the new owner will break it up?

Hey thanks all - its an interesting area in a somewhat quieter time if that can even be said - imagine a 20 year run with coins bearing English, Arabic and Hebrew inscriptions. Insane!

Jim it sure was a labor of love - the thing is here that putting together all 59 collectible dates in mint state conditions is just so damn tough it makes it an incredible challenge to pursue.

You mentioned the Kagan-Maremba collection which for some unexplained reason I did not even realize that sale came and went - Andy kindly brought it to my attention the other day...maybe its the age thingimage . But I understood as great as it was even that collection seems to have mostly circulated Palestine Mandate coins.

There were other amazing items like a 100 lb note which is amazing.

Actually, most were uncirculated. There just weren't many gems, and the quality fell short of my (perhaps unrealistic) expectations.

Is there any other (shorter) way? That's what rewarding collecting by a connaisseur is all about!

Absolutely stunning quality and consistency for such an ultra tough set in gem! [Eye candy]2 image

Of course there is. Just ask Marc to price the set.

Ha a shorter way hmmm nope no longer... I recall decades ago it was also tough but not like it is now.

If I remember correctly the price for a 59pc set in early 80's was about 12K (US$) and that might have been missing a few dates even but was overall an uncirculated set.

Today value for the entire set is easily 4 times that especially if you have all the key dates in Choice UNC (PCGS/NGC MS63-64) or better!
