Possible Bumps?

Before I send these in for regrading, I wanted to get some of your opinions! Hopefully at least a half point bump?

  • Morning,

Palmer is where it belongs because of both T/B right hand corners

Rookie Stars scan is not very clear, T/B centering not the best, I think it stays in an 8

Doby is at home because of Top Right corner

Bunning is an 8 because of top left corner

Kell outside chance at an 8.5, no way on the 9

Wynn is an 8 because of Bottom Right Corner and Top Left corner

68 Bench because of the crosshatch design corners always look worse than they are or better than they are, either way that's an 8 all day long

Blyleven, both right corners keep it in an 8

73 Third Baseman, Top Left corner is why it's in an 8 where it stays.

Just don't see a lot of up side here at all, all just solid for the grades, nothing jumping out as undergraded!

    Just my 2cents.

    Neil

    Hi Mike,

Beautiful cards! I've had little luck on review subs, especially most recently. I sub'd the 15 cards pictured below at this year's National in Baltimore - want to guess how many bumped? Not a single one. Take that for what you will, just sharing my experience.

Centering probably keeps the Doby, Bunning and Palmer(slight tilt) from bumping. However, the Carlton has beautiful centering. Top to bottom is better than it appears in scan, because bottom border is slightly covered by holder. Only problems I can see is what appears to be a dark mark near upper left corner, and some slight printing issues - most noticeably in "Ackley" and "pitcher". Probably worth the shot though
  • Thank you Andy, Neil & LightningBoy for your input.

I will think a little harder about sending them in now, I am kind of shocked that Andy didn't a any bumps on those beauties!
I have a couple of 8.5's I will post that I felt were no better than some of the above. The Gossage is centered weaker than any card in my collection & still received the grade, that's why I was hoping any slight centering problems may not hurt the others. The Fisk is perfect except for a knotch that you probably can not see in the scan on the bottom border.

The cards with the poor scans are from my scanner, and makes it much tougher to see. The others are scans by the sellers at the time I purchased them.

The PSA centering guidelines are numerical, and don't really take eye appeal into account. The Gossage is likely a slightly wide card, so it would fall within centering requirements for the grade but appear more O/C because that wide a border would signal worse centering on a card of proper width, if you know what I mean.

Here are the three I've had bump up half a grade (none of mine have ever gone up a whole grade). Befores (worse scanner) & afters:

  • I think Neil pretty much hit it right on the button. And I'd even agree with the Kell.....but I don't think I'd send that one either.

From the looks of the cards I think on most of them I'd actually be happy with the grades you received.....those are some FANTASTIC cards!!!
I'm a big Nolan Ryan fan OK???!!!

I like the Doby. Corners are always hard to see in scans. Nice stuff. Bumps are very hard to predict.
