Why eBay Sellers Drink

Auction eds Sunday night with last second snipe bid.
I send eBay invoice immediately.
As of Tuesday morning, buyer hasn't paid.
Buyer is a long time eBayer with tons of FB.
Won't answer emails either.
Why bid if you don't want to pay?

I don't worry about it for at least 3 weeks. Generally they all pay and I never have to communicate with them. Lots of coin buyers remember when you ordered things by putting the order form in the envelope, put a 7c stamp on it, and waiting 4-6 weeks for return mail. --Jerry

I hear ya. I "sold" a coin for $0.01 5 days ago, and the idiot still hasn't paid. Lucky me, I'll save $2.00 on shipping & materials in addition to the gas money I would have used going to the post office.

    Idiots abound.

Early last week, someone bought a $4 item from me, hasn't paid after at least 3 reminders, but promptly left positive feedback. Now, I like positive feedback as much as the next guy, but if I'm not going to get paid, I'd rather have my FVF credit.

definately jumping the gun. he sniped the item with a second to go which tells me he used a sniper program. which means he is probably not on the computer all the time. he may not be aware of winning it yet. i allow 14 days to pay for anything. and 14 days to return. jumping the gun can make a buyer uneasy, if he has tons of feedback, i would worry too much about it, not everyone lives at thier computer desk

add to that, some people have separate buying/selling accts,... give the guy at least a week. if the unpaid item assistant worries you, turn it off

I wait 14 days before I file a NPB.. People are traveling for the holidays. Filing a NPB after 4 days isn't right!!! Mine was set up to auto mail one after 7 days and I turned it off.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

That's not a reason to drink. After a month and on-and-off email responses, okay. But 2 days? You're nuts.

Geeeeez, give it a little time buddy! I have a friend that runs a ranch. Often he is in
the "field" for several weeks at a time. Line cabin to line cabin and such. Maybe this
guy is on a rig in th gulf, or such. You know that this is a great time to vacation in Hawaii.
Any such "problems" will correct themselves when he gets on the computer next.

Are you kidding me? You would leave a negative if it took a buyer more than TWO days to pay?

That's ridiculous. For people who don't carry a significant paypal balance, and who don't have an instant transfer set up between their paypal and bank accounts, it can take 4 days to transfer money from a bank into paypal. I won't even send an email to an unpaid buyer until 5 or 6 days after the listing closed.

It's probably an unattended snipe bid that the buyer forgot about. I have done this once as a buyer. When I found the unpaid item in Me eBay 3 days later, I said, "oh yeah, THAT coin," and paid for it. If they buyer had good feedback, just relax and wait for him/her to re-discover it and pay.

You are definitely impatient and not a seller I would like to deal with.
If he sniped it on Sunday (may have been set up in advance and done via a service), and you are concerned you didn't get your money for an inexpensive item after ONE (1) business day, then you have, imho, problems...and they aren't with your buyer.

Some folks travel, have things happen, etc. It can take more than a day. If you can't relax on that, then maybe ebay isn't the place for you to sell.

God help any ebay seller you may buy from that doesn't have the item in your hands 1 minute after you place your bid....you would probably neg him over that.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Well maybe I did jump the gun.
When I win on eBay, I pay or request an invoice immediately.
I suppose it is asking too much for others to do the same (altho I wish they did!)

I been on ebay now for 8 years and never had this many no pays from buyers with good feedback. Problem is ebay wont allow sellers to leave a negative anymore. The need to make change that and allow a seller to leave negative feedback and a non paying bidder case is closed.

Out of my last 10 auctions 4 still have not paid. I NEVER had it this bad!!

This times a million. If a buyer taking more than 36 hours leads you to drink, you'll be drinking up all your meagre ebay profits and should probably stop selling on there!

Re-reading this I now know why eBay found it necessary to protect buyers from sellers that want to go ballistic and give neg's if not paid within two days.
Unpaid claim minimum time is four days now, and that gives a buyer who for some reason needs it another four days to pay.
When I first started selling on eBay the normal wait was a week to ten days to get the buyers check. Then another week or so to get it cleared then ship.

    2 things:
    * You should learn what sniping really is (ie....one doesn't need to be at the computer as it can be automated and could be set well in advance....I've done that and been traveling on an overseas flight when I've won....and not been able to pay for a couple of days due to circumstances.....and if that means someone doesn't want my bid/money, so be it)
    * Maybe you should learn what is really acceptable to vent about before having a tantrum that someone didn't do what you wanted, how you wanted, and when you wanted........just a suggestion to make your forum experiences a bit more pleasant image
(but, thank you for telling us what to do....to make YOUR life better since it is all about YOU image )

Amazing how the OP's attitude changes when he doesn't get his way!!!

The tide has turned and now as a seller you've really turned into a dealer. As such you were supposed to follow all the e-bay rules, which allows the buyer 7 days to pay.

Live by the sword die by the sword.

I didn't see how much money was involved...but I do agree that a couple days isn't a biggie. We send a reminder at 3 business days, a second reminder at 7 (if it gets that far), and then NPB after that-which seldom happens. Frankly since Ebay essentially forces buyers to pay via Paypal there really isn't any excuse for taking longer than a week to pay. I understand that things can happen, yada yada, but more often than not it has nothing to do with extenuating circumstances (although I've heard lots of creative excuses).

In my experience, if payment goes longer than 7-10 business days, the reason invariably boils down to one of these four reasons, in decreasing order of likelihood:

    a) Buyer's remorse. (Far and away the #1 reason)
    b) Buyer can't afford item for whatever reason and can't acknowledge same.
    c) Sport bidder who never intended to buy item.
    d) Someone else bid on item without bidder's knowledge.

That said, I've found that there is a direct correlation between inexpensive items and the number of sport bidders and NPBs. The rates of non payers in low dollar non-numismatic items on Ebay are staggering.

I think maybe the mention of a "last second snipe" is the key to it, it sounds like an automated snipe program rather than a live snipe.

Maybe he doesn't even know he won yet, or maybe this is one of many auctions he's working through.

Or maybe he's overextended by winning more than he expected, and is going to have to "ration" paying.

Either way, he should contact you soon, or you'll be filing NPB (it happens occasionally, goes with the territory)

    best of luck
