Another ebay question - looks fishy

I am interested in an auction of a PSA 8 card. I made an offer($600) and he countered($738)while the price is pretty good the picture he used is terrible, it's small, and cannot be enlarged. In the listing he has a cert listed which I verified using the PSA cert verification and it comes up as a PSA 8 however that cert doesn't match the card, so I used the cert number from off the picture it also comes up a PSA 8. I am a little worried as there can be a wide difference in PSA 8's in particular with centering.

Where would I stand with ebay and paypal if I bought the said card, since he listed the PSA cert number would that cover him in using a different card for his picture?

Thanks,

BC

  • Well why not send him a message and tell him about your concerns. Not sure what anyone here can do for you.
  • I agree, contact the seller about your concerns.
I can only imagine the problems that might arise when a seller is listing several of the same cards. Recently I won a card but when I received it I was really disappointed at the centering. I didn't remember it being so bad. After comparing the received card with the pic (both were graded PSA 8's) listed I found they were different cards. I contacted the seller asking for the correct card but was told that he had already sent it incorrectly to another buyer. He said he would refund my money and for me to keep the card. It wasn't much money but you can be sure that I will try to purchase from him in the future!

I am just covering my bases in case I do buy the card and the one that shows up has poor centering, the card in the pic has good centering but the certs don't match up.

I am going to be blunt.

You would be a MORON to go through with this sale. Red flag is a small, hard to see photo on a $600-700.00 card. Walk away flag if cert # is for a different card.

Unless seller is willing to send you a large clear scan of the card, do not give him your money. If you go through with the sale and he sends you something you are unhappy with, PayPal and ebay will probably refund your money. I am not a scammer, so I can't see how he could get away with it, but why bother.........this seems to be a pretty obvious "bait and switch".

I don't understand at all what you're saying about the cert. You are saying like 2 different times about the cert matching a PSA 8 in the database..........I'll copy what I'm talking about//////////////////////////////////

In the listing he has a cert listed which I verified using the PSA cert verification and it comes up as a PSA 8 however that cert doesn't match the card, so I used the cert number from off the picture it also comes up a PSA 8.

I am fine with blunt and I agree with the above thank you.

I generally look at any posts involving ebay/paypal to stay up to date on the new scams and to stay current on the ins and outs of using ebay/paypal.

i would give you my best personal advice based on experience. if you feel any suspicion at all, then just simply walk away. there will be other opportunities. be patient. good luck whatever you do.

Oh, it's a Jordan rookie. I don't think there has ever been a scam involving a Jordan rookie. Point out to the seller the discrepancy between the picture and description, and find out what exactly he's selling. Then have him correct the listing and add a better scan of the card you will be getting. If this doesn't go smoothly then consider one of the other dozens of Jordans on Ebay. They might not be as cheap as this on but there's probably a very good reason for that.

Well he responded and added a second pic to his auction and as suspected the second pic has poor centering. Thanks for the advice.
