Does Tony Gwynn sign TTM?

Does anyone know if Tony Gwynn signs TTM? If so, do you send C/O San Diego State? Does he charge?

  • SCN shows a 19% success rate with the last one coming in 2009. Save your stamps in my opinion.

StarTiger did not show many successes either. That's why I was wondering if anyone from the boards had any TTM success with him.

I never sent anything that I can recall and that seems to be a wise decision image

I agree with your thinking. HOWEVER, sometimes you never know.

I sent cards to both Kareem and Pete Rose and got them back signed. Free of charge. If I would have gone just by StarTiger and SCN I never would have sent them. Sometimes you do get lucky!

I totally agree with that logic as well. I have gotten back a few nice suprises over the last 6 years as well. If you send something you can afford to lose then I don't have an issue with it.

I think this is the #1 rule of TTMs. If you can't afford to lose ... DON'T send it!

Back in the day (early 2000s) Gwynn was great TTM. I have many cool pieces that were signed by him, and he always responded promptly. It seems like this may have changed, but I would certainly give it a try. Aside from cards, I had sent him bulkier items too, and he always signed those as well. I once sent him this 8*10 sportsflix type piece that showed him hitting a home run. The "frame" of it was all black, with gold lettering at the bottom. Tony even went as far to find a thick gold marker to sign it in so his signature matches the bottom and popped against the black background.

I have read in more than one place that by sending cards to Gwynn's auto dealership that the success rate goes higher. It was my understanding that you might be waiting awhile but a number of people did get some autographs back from the dealership that appeared to be legitimate. I havnt tried it but probably will now that I am thinking about it again.

This is his dealerships web site:

Here is one signing in January, but not the one referred to above, as it is $70.00.

I grew up in San Diego and am one of the more avid Gwynn collectors out there, even having a chance to meet him a couple times. In the 80's and 90's Gwynn was one of the best at responding to these. He got a ton of requests and always responded, more than the other superstars in that era (Puckett, Mattingly, Clemens, Boggs, etc never responded). He's a class act all the way. If he is not responding now, I am sure there are valid reasons as he has always been a great ambassador to the game of baseball and the fans. You can also try the San Diego Padres broadcast affiliate as he broadcasts quite a few home games for the Padres too
