Wait time for pack grading is unacceptable!

What can we do to get Mr. Orlando to train his staff or hire a local authenticator so packs can be turned around in a reasonable amount of time. 3+ months is not working for me!!! Any suggestions??? (And please don't say send to GAI or keep them ungraded!)

Keep them ungraded or send them to Beckett when they start grading packs... whatever you decide, be sure to start a new thread! image

  • Yeah, it just gets to a point where there has to be a higher standard of customer service given the money we spend for grading... I personally can't wait for Beckett to step it up because PSA is really dropping the ball here.....

Just assume it will be 3 months from loggage to poppage and you won't be disappointed. GAI takes even longer so if you don't want to wait that long I'd just refrain from submitting them in the first place.

I am too lazy to look but don't they have a faster service? Saying that I wonder if they
do keep them there in a controlled environment to see if they have been tampered with?

  • Well, your post and personal message were both a bit annoying. If you submit packs on a regular basis to PSA yourself and are okay with the 3+ month wait, then that's cool Grote15. I have submitted 100's packs to both grading companies the past 7 years and feel I have a valid complaint about PSA's 'assumption' the 3+ month wait is acceptable!!! It's NOT. Sadly, PSA graded packs are still preferred amongst most vintage pack collectors which is the ONLY reason why I continue to send packs to them. This hobby really needs another reliable grading company to compete with PSA so they will learn the value of reliable customer service. Once they see more business going elsewhere, see how fast that 3+ months turn into 6 weeks or less.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for another option as reputable as PSA to start grading packs. In any event, the choice is yours as to submit or not, but starting a thread to complain about the wait time each time you send a submission in is not really serving any useful purpose.

  • First off, I don't start a new thread every time I submit packs - I was just adding to one already started (see 1977 pack thread). This forum is designed to talk with other collectors about our hobby. It's not always good as you can read over and over again in other posts. I felt others may be having similar problems with PSA and their unacceptable wait time so this would be the perfect place to talk about this and see if someone can offer a reasonable suggestion. So, back off and let other chime in who can share some productive insight.

Grote15 is a friend and a wax pack expert. I'm pretty sure he's not the one that needs guidance. image

No offense but it seems like the vast majority of your posts or contributions to this forum have been complaints about PSA turnaround times, of which we are all acutely aware by now.

  • None taken. Why don't you start a new thread and I'll stop complaining about something that EVERYONE is well aware of already. I am pleased to know you actually read them however.

That's just crazy talk. Get back on the sidelines. image
The best pitch to start a hitter off with is always strike one.
  • One can special order a suped up Cadillac from the factory and have it previous to three months. That long of a time is indeed very ridiculous service.

In defense of PSA I have been tracking pack pop reports since early this summer.
I just starting collecting and grading packs this year and love it.
I have a dozen more going out (once I receive the last two from BBCE) in this month's special.

Here is a snap shot of the Pop reports on various dates through this summer.

Obviously this isn't an exact replication of grading day by day but shows how much Pop reports moved.

As you can see from 9/9 until 10/30 almost 1200 pack jump in pops.

It seems PSA was much busier these 51 days.

    FWIW,

Happy thanksgiving weekend. Go Pats image

That chart would underscore the reasons behind the backlog. I know PSA got a lot of packs submitted at and within a month or so after the National and I suspect all those subs will pop at once, probably very soon, too. Some may say that PSA ought to hire additional graders, but after watching the debacle at GAI and their revolving door of pack graders (including Murphy, especially the second time around), do we really want PSA to entertain that notion?

Or that poor kid who died of cancer- Ritter, or something similar. Bottom line- there's only one guy in the world who anyone trusts to grade packs, and he lives in Chicago. And if he's not prepared, willing or able to train anyone new, then you're stuck working on his schedule. Deal with it.

Unfortunately............when you're the big dog; which PSA is. There is no incentive to have good customer service. When it comes to anything before 1980...whether it be packs or cards...there is no other option. PSA is the big and will always be the biggest dog in town. SGC isn't even a blip on the radar screen anymore. Being the big dog in town and that they know it...........we'll be lucky if turnaround times don't get considerably worse as time goes on. I mean think about it------PSA has graded the hobbies most sacred cards by the thousands....no other company even has a chance to compete. I used to like it when SGC was a solid #2 and gaining.

Maybe there's a disconnect... collectors see good customer service as speedy grading and slabbing whereas PSA see good customer service as taking the time and processes necessary to ensure authentication?

  • While I can clearly see and understand the OP's frustration - there is a time and place for everything and so by bashing and complaining on an open forum is not going to fix anything. Joe Orlando has already said this as of recent as about 2-3 days ago. He said behavior like this will not be tolerated is truthfully, it’s probably more likely to get you banned permanently. Maybe you don’t care seeing how you only have 30 post but in answer to your question/complaining, WinPitcher gave you the best advice already which is to just email him directly and offer your concerns.
