Hostess cards from the 70's

The only now cool thing. The non skilled, actually as non skilled as airllines stewardess and Walmart workers should have zero right to fight for more money and benefits. The take down of America that crap is if it ends up like the oil clean up crews in Detroit winning a stupid lame law suit to ensure they still get 65 bucks an hour. Unions.. only a loser would be in one. Fire any STRIKING union member. Hostess cards on the Twinkie boxes are cool.

Comments

  • Well, that is one way to introduce hostess' cards from the 70's into the discussion.

  • WOW, might I recommend an English class before you start calling millions of people morons because of what they do.

Furthermore, unions have their place. It gives a voice to the workers who otherwise would not have one. You may want to pay all of these people $7 an hour, but last time I checked you cannot live on $7 an hour.

Grow up and take it somewhere else.
I am working on the Nolan Ryan master set. Need 1004 more cards to complete. I might actually spend more on plastic than I did on cardboard.

Not really, most union workers are overpaid. Just would be nice, if they accepted a reasonable wage.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Is that fact or your opinion? And if it is fact do you have any data to support your claim?

    Just askin...
    Good for you.
  • Im for the worker getting all he can. Its the corrupt union officials who parasite off the workers backs that are the problem.
  • firedawg45firedawg45 Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭
Support your claim that union workers are overpaid . I take it your not in a union or you wouldnt being saying that. Wouldn't you want the most money you can get? Your a idiot if you don't! Show me some proof on how you think they are overpaid or is it your uneducated mouth just running again?

  • After 43 years I retired from a union job this past Dec 29. I sure am glad that I was a member, especially during the past 7 years. If you have good management there is a less need for a union. This was not my case recently.

Did I miss something? What does this have to do with 1970's Hostess cards?

It sounds more like degrading people for the fun (?) of it

I do not believe this crap belongs on the board.

Unions are outdated and cripple industries. The auto industry should have gone bankrupt in the US but the American tax payer bailed them out and still paying for it. GM needs to go to 54 bucks a share to break even. The unions make it impossible for these companies to compete with the Japanese and because of their greed and sense of entitlement, they will eventually go bankrupt like hostess. Every job is not equal. Why should a cashier job pay more than minimum wage? What it costs to live is irrelevant. The wage shouldn't be a subsidy so someone can live. That is not how business works. If a person can't live on a cashiers salary then get a second job or search for a different job that offers more opportunities. The job will be obsolete with self checkout anyways. People complain about shipping jobs over seas. The unreasonable demands of unions are leaving companies no choice. I don't understand why someone who has had the same job for 20 years but does the bare minimum should be paid more and put on a higher priority on a lay off list than someone who has had the job for 3 years but works their tail off. It's a terrible concept and wag to do business. To reward someone based on tenure rather than Merritt is terrible

I am a member of the WGA (Writer's Guild of America), and the good it does for its members-- from healthcare to pensions to fighting the studios on coercing free work from writers, to ensuring a basic minimum quote-- this is critical. Yet it's impossible to engage in proper debate when some are speaking in sweeping generalizations here.

What I can say is writers are not overpaid (look at star, producer, and director pay). I can also say that the WGA is far from outdated; as the entertainment industry goes through changes in distribution and monetization due to the internet, the guilds' vigilance is needed more than ever.

I think it's important to evaluate each case on its own, always-- and not to truck in broad generalization. It's much easier, and lazier, to simply group people and things together based on some single experience, but that avenue almost always leads to ignorance.

But the salient point here is that this has jack to do with cards.

Unions should be a choice, however in non "Right to Work" states, it is forced upon you. Thank goodness in my state, I can never be forced into joining.

Unions are fine for some people, but not all.

ah, yes - that's Nathan and his third wife, Inga. She was always warmly received at the monthly IOOF mixers. I'll never understand why he left her for the Mayor's secretary, Madge.

Who wants to chip in for some holiday therapy for the Santa obsessed among us?

  • The OP I'd say does have a point. Not sure though if he meant to included ALL Unions in his meaning though. The firefighter thing and other very legit skilled unions are fine to me. It is though the '6,700 members of the Teamsters' ' that worked at Hostess in example, and the UAW of past, along with lame strikes from freaking Stewardesses that really need to shut up. Those unions did indeed make the USA a worse place to be. Fire 'em all.

One thing I've learned from this thread is that the mods are not interested in Hostess cards from the 70's
