PSA Poppage/Delivery!! 1975 Fleer Pioneers of Baseball SCANS

Hey Guys,

Got a 36 card sub. back today on the PSA Set Registry special. Most of it was 1975 Fleer Pioneers of Baseball and I now have a complete PSA graded set. My son opens all my subs with me (we don't check on-line prior to). Before we opened he said "Dad, I don't have a good feeling about this one". Well..........he was a little right. I was hoping for 8's and maybe a 9 or two, but it didn't quite work out that way. Got quite a few 7's and one 6.5. But, most were 8's so I'm happy.

I didn't see any prior threads on this set, so I wanted to share it in case people didn't know of its existence. I enjoy baseball history and I found this set covered a lot of the late 1800s/ early 1900's players, most of them are HOF's. I also like that all have actual photos of the players during their playing days. There aren't a lot of PSA graded examples and all of mine were subbed. The brown borders show chipping and the set has a tendency to be off center, so its a treat to find nice raw examples.

Anyway, hope you enjoy and here are some scans of my better examples from the set.

Nice scans. I collected this set as a kid and currently have the #1 set. I also individually submitted each card. I enjoyed reading the bios on the back and learning the history of the game from them. Overlooked set and hard to find in nice shape.

I'm really glad you chimed in on this J!!! You have a fantastic set and I certainly appreciate it. Most of the players are long forgotten but vital to baseball history. I only found this set about two years ago, but really enjoy it. The backs are indeed a great summary of the player's careers and they made me do research for more info. The set compliments the Golden Press set that I also collect. Between those two sets, you've got about every major star from the first 60 years of baseball.

Did you submit cards from your childhood or did you purchase them later to submit?? If you would be willing, I would love to see scans of a few of your 9's and 10's. It definitely is hard to find raw examples with sharp corners and nice centering. Hard to believe the set is almost 40 years old.

Unfortunately when we were kids, my 2 brothers and I all collected cards. When she would clean our room, they would get mixed together and we would argue over which cards were ours. My mother's solution to this problem was to write our names on the back of our cards as we bought them. None of them survived to make my set. I put this set together over a four year period by going to shows and a few off of ebay. If I can figure out how to download scans of them, I will share them.

Well, you mom had a good idea as a problem solving parent, but little did they know!! image It would be nice to hit some shows that have nice raw examples, but those shows are few and far between where I'm at. All of mine were purchased off eBay, but there are a few on-line dealers that have really nice ones.

If you need help uploading scans, just PM me.

Thanks for sharing. I remember having and reading these cards in the late 1970s. Cool set. These cards and the Famous Feats cards taught me a fair amount about the history of baseball. I keep thinking about picking up the sets. Am feeling inspired now!
Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.

Oops. Sorry about that, first time mistake. The Ewing (and Mascot!) is my favorite. Want to get the real one (Old Judge), but, so far, a little out of my price range.
  • Awesome, just awesome!! Those 10s are just stunning. Amazes me how they stayed that way for 30+ years. The Buck Ewing & Mascot surely makes that card one of the best. Its great to see McGraw as a player, too. And, of course, we got Old Hoss Radbourn fippin' off the camera as usual image

Nice cards...it is too bad PSA is getting so sloppy with those frosted inserts -cramming them in and not caring about them buckling and wrinkling up. Mine from a recent sub were the same way. I don't know how they can send out cards in holders looking like that.
