Is bidding up a board members ebay auction, shill bidding ?

Just wondering.

I think so, here is ebay's definition:

Shill bidding happens when anyone—including family, friends, roommates, employees, or online connections—bids on an item with the intent to artificially increase its price or desirability.

I guess you could say we are 'online connections' and if we really have no intention of actually trying to win the auction, i think that would be shill bidding.

    Yes it is shilling.
    Does it happen....Yes
Is it enforceable not very likely.

The simple fact is it is really hard to determine because many bid to win a good deal but not go whole hog to get all the items.
If I see something going cheap I have put in bids at 80% of what I know it's worth hoping for a rip.

    Yes

places a max bid on an item they'll take, at the bid they entered, no questions asked, regradless of their intent to own (i.e. resell later, use it as a coaster, whatever)

    then No

If you collude with the seller and or don't intend to win its shilling. If you win and pay then I guess its just a bid

Yes, unless the board member is truly to win the auction. Otherwise, it is wrong, and dishonest, imo..

I feel posting a link to your ebay items is more advertising than shill bidding. I've been know to bid up items to 80% or so of the value for stuff I wouldn't mind owning but don't really need ( good deal for me and it prevents a fellow formite from getting ripped, win win ) personally I keep my ebay transaction off here and use the BST but that's me.

    This.

I only bid on things that I'm willing to buy at the prices I bid.

(edited to fix spelling, darn it)
    When in doubt, don't.

Many years ago a small group of big coin wheels in my area got in trouble on ebay for bidding on the auctions of their buddies. They won to many of each others auctions. lol

    Short answer: Yes.
Longer answer: Yes, it is shill bidding.
