I made you a really cool display. I took one of my spare Wagners (too old to fit in my collection), lacquered it to a board, and used it to display the box of 86 Donruss I sent. It's gorgeous - you'll love it.

I'll set a self-imposed deadline of 6 PM CT to kick this thing off.

My wife makes summer sausage stew and chewy ginger snaps on Christmas Eve. Once I get into that (and the egg nog), it's all downhill from there.

My Secret Santa (I can't disclose his name, but I think he really likes 1954 Topps image) sent me an unopened pack of Historic Autograph Company Midwest Champions, a baseball signed by members of the 1975 Cincinnati Reds and a 1975 World Series program! image This should cover the next 8 years of Secret Santa gifts!

I think I literally got Santa clause as my secret Santa.... He went way way way above and beyond... To kick things off I got a psa 8 Montana rookie. This alone would have been an amazing unexpected gift but its just the tip of the ice berg. Up next a psa 8 Jerry rice rookie. Ok that's a really good gift in its self.... But we aren't even close to being done. Throw in a Stan musal autographed legendary cuts and 1996 sp buy back auto Griffey jr and Troy aikman 89 score. Now for the really fun stuff. An 80s football unopened pack extravaganza. A nice wax pack run from 81-86. And 2 amazing 86 grocery racks. I ripped everything and did great on the 86. Pulled a super sharp Steve young rookie and another rice rookie. Whoever my secret Santa was I just want to thank you for your incredible generosity. Ill post scans after the holidays. Thanks again and merry Christmas to everyone and their families.
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here

Santa sent me a Gorgeous 1974 PSA 8 Dave Winfield rookie. Not sure how this card did not pull a 9. Its fantastic. I needed this card for my 1974 set. Thanks Secret Santa. I love it.

    That Winfield looks great.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

    1985 Topps Football (starting in psa 8) - #9 - started 05/21/06
  • To start:

1987 Topps Vending Box: Back in the day, just about everything you wanted in young players was in this box.

    Rookies of Note:

Will Clark, Kevin Mitchell, Chuck Finley (Hey anyone who got beat up by Tawny Kitaen is all right in my book), Mike Greenwell, B.J. Surhoff, Rafael Palmeiro. Wally Joyner, Bobby Bonilla, Jamie Moyer, Bo Jackson, Ruben Sierra, Dave Magadan (now coaching here in Texas),

Well just about all the rookies except Barry Bonds (oh well) but dang there were a lot of good rookies in this set. It's just fun to look at the cards slowly and remember them if you sorted 1987's like I di and I did and I did.

There will be more later, but that was a nice start

    My Santa really outdid himself...

I got a Sports Illustrated from before the first Saints season, featuring LSU HOFer Jim Taylor:

This awesome coin (doubloon?) from the Saints preseason game against the Falcons. I didn't even know this existed!

Thanks jeffcbay for the awesome Christmas present. I was going to open this on video and upload it but I had company and family over and they wanted to see what I got. This helped me finish The Starlin Castro rainbow minus the superfractor of course. Also I didnt have any of the Sandbergs. The graded 76's also help both my 76 registry set as well as my 76 Cubs set. I was also sent a 76 Wonder Bread Football set which is not pictured which I am trying to do an autographed set of. Thanks again for the awesome gift.

I want to thank Brian too... he wasn't my Secret Santa, but once he learned I drove a VW, he sent my children enough VW shirts, cups, BBQ items, hats, golf items, soccer balls, footballs, VW Beetle thumbdrives, backpacks, etc., to fill my VW!!!!! He even sent 2 cigars; one for each of my two children! image

I have a CU Secret Santa Tradition.

I make sure all my girls presents are under the tree.
I make sure my girls think Santa came and eat the carrots/cookies and spill some milk.
I make sure it's past midnight when I open my Secret Santa.

    Holy Moly!

I got a little bit of everything -- make that A LOT of everything.

    All baseball.

    In no order, I received:

    Unopened -- 1980 cello, 1983 cello, 1981 rack, 1982 rack, 1984 rack, 1985 rack (all Topps)

    Graded --1976's: B. Madlock, Father/Son Bell and B. Dent -- all PSA 9

    PSA/DNA -- 1975 McCovey Authentic Auto

OddBall -- TWO unopened baseball foldouts -- 1983, Topps Collectors Series set -- 1986?

    Raw -- 1973 Yogi Berra

    Misc -- (10) 1968 Topps game cards

Forget Holy Moly. Holy Shi-take mushroom!

Secret Santa -- YOU ROCKED IT.

Cheers to everyone and merry christmas,

    Gregg

Here is my secret santa gift and I couldn't be more thrilled. I absolutely love vintage cards of the St. Louis Cardinals and a hall of famer to boot. If it wasn't for some mild paper loss on the back of this card, it would go for some big dollars. Just a beauty.

I'm really glad you like the 1974 Topps Winfield PSA 8. It is a stunner for a PSA 8 in my humble opinion.

I got a great secret santa gift. I got a framed 11X14 Pete Rose autograph. He even inscribed it "Hit King".

It is the perfect gift and didn't have one like it.

Thanks to my secret Santa. I loved my gift and will really enjoy it.

  • Well:

And after a fun filled trip (see it happened to snow in North Texas which made the roads very interesting) to and from my sister in laws: I opened up the final part of the package:

And it was a surprise as I had seen a 1984 Donruss box and thought OK it will be a 1984 box to open, instead it was an assortment of packs which I will recap after opening:

1987 Fleer Cello with Ruben Sierra on Top; Living in the Dallas/Ft Worth area I will keep that one unopened

These will be noted as they are opened:

1989 Upper Deck: Best Player: Greg Maddux

1984 O-Pee-Chee: Darryl Darryl Strawberry Rookie

1990 Leaf Series 2: Best Player: Joe Carter

1987 Donruss: Best Card: Pete Incaviglia Rookie

1981 Fleer: Best Card (s): Fergie Jenkins, Tony LaRussa MG and Joe Charboneau Rookie

1984 Topps: All Commons and very minor Stars

1986 Fleer: All Commons and Minor Stars; Best Minor Stars are Willie Randolph and Dave Kingman

1980 Topps: Best Cards: Mike Schmidt and Lou Brock/Cal Yastrzemski RB

1983 Fleer: Best Cards: Kirk Gibson and HOFer Rollie Fingers

1983 Donruss: Best Card: Jack Morris DK

1986 Donruss: Best Player: Paul Molitor

1986 Donruss/Leaf: Best Card: Ozzie Guillen RC

1987 Fleer: All Commons and Minor Stars:

1983 O-Pee-Chee: Best Card should have been Tim Raines but the gum stuck to that card otherwise commons and minor stars

1986 Fleer: Best Player: David Mark Winfield

1981 Donruss: Best Player: Bert (Be Home) Blyleven. Every card in that pack was either a Pirate or an Astro. 1981 Donruss was notorious for bad collaction. Joe Sambito was a dupe as he appeared 2x in the pack

1985 Topps: All Commons and very minor stars

1982 Fleer: Jorge (George) Bell Rookie Card and best player Tommy John

1984 Fleer: Best Player: Gaylord Perry, Best Card: Andy Van Slyke Rookie

1981 Topps Cello: Fergie Jenkins, Fernando Valenzuela/Mike Scioscia Rookie Card (I would not be surprised to see Scioscia in the HOF some day_

1982 Topps: Best Player: Tommy John. Best Card (if you live in Minnesota); Ron Gardenire Rookies

1979 Topps: Best Cards: Willie Upshaw Rookie, Graig Nettles, Tim McCarver

    1982 O-Pee-Chee: Best Card/Player; Rollie Fingers

    1985 Fleer: Graig Nettles

1985 Donruss: Goose Gossage, Terry Pendleton RC (error spelled Jeff)

1984 Topps Cello: Best Card; Joe Torre MG

1982 Donruss: Best Card/Player: George Brett DK

    And that's that's all folks
