Established in 1881, the United States Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) has played a decisive role in the education and training of officers in times of war and peace. It has had a profound effect on many fields of battle by providing its students the required skills of battle management, leadership development, and the most modern and effective command and staff action procedures. All of these have been key to our Nation’s success in its many military conflicts, which have helped preserve our freedoms and way of life. The CGSC is the country’s oldest and largest military staff college. The 5-star generals who attended or taught at CGSC are:
•Douglas MacArthur
•George C. Marshall
•Henry "Hap" Arnold
•Dwight D. Eisenhower
•Omar N. Bradley
The 5-Star Generals Commemorative Coin Act (Public Law 111-262) (Act) requires the Secretary of the Treasury to mint and issue up to 100,000 $5 gold, 500,000 $1 silver and 750,000 half-dollar clad coins in recognition of these five United States Army 5-star generals to coincide with the celebration of the 132nd anniversary of the founding of the CGSC. As authorized, in 2013, the United States will honor the generals with the minting of three commemorative coins. Their five portraits will be distributed across the three obverse (heads side) coin designs, while the reverse (tails) designs are all emblematic of the CGSC at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The final designs were approved by the Department of the Treasury on September 7, 2012, after consultation with the CGSC Foundation and the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, and review by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.
Surcharges in the amount of $35 for each gold coin, $10 for each silver coin and $5 for each clad coin sold are authorized to be paid to the CGSC Foundation to help finance its activities in support of the college.
The Designs
$5 Gold Coin
Obverse: Features a portrait of General Douglas MacArthur with the 5-star insignia on the right side of the design. Inscriptions are IN GOD WE TRUST, DOUGLAS MACARTHUR, 2013 and LIBERTY.
Reverse: Features the Leavenworth Lamp, the symbol of the CGSC. Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, FIVE DOLLARS and FORT LEAVENWORTH.
$1 Silver Coin
Obverse: Features Generals George C. Marshall and Dwight D. Eisenhower against a striped background with the 5-star insignia above their heads. Inscriptions are GEORGE C. MARSHALL, DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, IN GOD WE TRUST, 2013 and LIBERTY.
Reverse: Features the Leavenworth Lamp with the heraldic crest of Fort Leavenworth on its side. U.S. ARMY COMMAND AND GENERAL STAFF COLLEGE is inscribed on the lower half of the design. Other inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, E PLURIBUS UNUM and FORT LEAVENWORTH.
Half-Dollar Clad Coin
Obverse: Features portraits of Generals Henry "Hap" Arnold and Omar N. Bradley with the 5-star insignia above their heads. Inscriptions are LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, HENRY "HAP" ARNOLD, OMAR N. BRADLEY and 2013.
Reverse: Features the heraldic crest of Fort Leavenworth. Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and HALF DOLLAR.

BTW, do you think PCGS will be offering a 3 coin special holder for these commemoratives?

Considering I have bought all of the Clad and Silver Modern Commems
as well as some of the Gold, I feel that stopping short and not picking
these coins up ( in both formats ) would bother me down the road.
I have stopped buying the yearly MS and PR sets however.
