David Hall Numismatic Investment Group - is there a grade guarantee??

Hall flip - needs conserving??

I collect these but this is the first I've seen with serious issues. The coin is in a container sealed inside the flip - interesting.........image

I am going to guess that there is no guarantee that is in effect. Those flips are hardly tamperproof.

Predates Collectors Universe and not even sure they had a warranty program.
And yes the coins are in a cointain inside the heat sealed flip.
Edit to add many of the good ones have made it into new slabs at higher grades as these used to be sought avidly by the crack out artists.

His flips were sonicaly sealed with a special seal that incorporated his name. It would be difficult to tamper with it without it being detected. You can see it in the eBay pics in the attachment.

    Bummer.

I thought that most of these were in the containers that fit the coin without the gasket ring. (might be wrong)

When I started this, couldn't find the "tongue in cheek" icon........image

I have a few examples of those flips. I've never before seen a lincoln cent though.

I only have one Lincoln Cent in these old David Hall flips... looks much nicer than the eBay example though!!!

Also, the typing on the labels looks a bit different in the eBay example... is that an earlier or later example you think???

I've noticed at least 6 different combos of font, placement of data, etc, not including the number of times his name was used on the seal and not including the brown version. Not sure it means much other than he was experimenting at the time. Here are 6 different styles.

I tested those holders years ago only to find that they left a film of some kind on the coins. The bottom picture shows where I used a toothpick to remove some of the film on the coat in vertical strokes.

Needless to say, I don't use those holders. I'm presently testing the IS holders with a few lower grade but lustrous coins.

Interesting, the cents and some of the dimes have the gasket rings in the inner container.

Same here. I put some silver coins in those gasket holders (I think they are called AirTite) back in the 1980s, about the same time David Hall was using them. When I looked at them again a couple of years ago, I noticed an unattractive film on all the coins. I don't think that foam is inert.

More like a sturdy porous foam. Were there two kinds?

This is obvious environmental damage - and I would guess due to poor storage conditions over the years after being sold by Hall. No buyback unless for the nuisance value.
