Despite the best efforts of today's top scientists, they never could quite get the Card Collector 2000 (tm) Business Card Reading Robot to master the complexities of modern human language.
I know some people love these 1/1 autos and all but for that price wouldn't you rather a PSA 10 Fleer RC and a high end BGS Star XRC if you are an MJ Collector? Or maybe even throw in a Jewel Prism while you're at it...
I know I'd rather have any of those...or a minty fresh BBCE 86 Fleer Wax Box...Just sayin.

I would as well. The thing is that anybody that is bidding on this card probably already has those items or at least could afford them and could get them at any given time. This card will not come up at any give time so to a Jordan collector it is now or never.
i are crazy wow just cant beleif poeple throw there munee away like it growaz on a tree Jordan iz modern icon never bee a better man see i tell you he is gradest ever basketblal they dont wnat LeBrons auto or Linsnattiy just bestist playerr on any planet even mars.
Upper Deck has been doing a lot of Jordan 1/1 buybacks lately so while they are all 1/1s, there are many of them out there compared to a few years ago.

^This.
I'd guess this card will be over $75k. I'd much rather take 2-3 86 Fleer boxes. Still an awesome card.

Its amazing how Upper Deck survives year after year with the licenses they currently hold. They clearly fill a market void for high end modern collectors. I wish they could get their house in order and regain an MLB license someday.
I don't get it. None of these 1/1 cards are special to me.. There are so many 1/1s. Who can really keep track of them. Why is this 1/1 so special. 24K is a lot of Ks. The buybacks are pretty cool. If it were a 84 Star 101 auto buy back issues in fleer packs as 1/1 insert.. And was graded by PSA and was gem mint.. Then I guess I could see that going for over 20k. Come to think of it.. That would actually be a really cool chase card.
All I know is I would not want to ship that card from Japan to someone in Brazil or even in the States. Thats just my humble opinion. To have to insure that card for damage from - how many hands will touch it before it gets there. I would definitely make sure it is secure in some heavy acrylic screw down holder that has a combination lock.

Goodsport, you do know Upper Decks' history correct ? There are books about it. If they ever get an MLB license again I'd be dissapointed. It was proven they printed cards outside of stated number with the early Hockey, and are probably still printing 1989 baseball.
Hi guys. Am new here and failed to introduce. Just got caught up in this discussion. Not a fan of Upper Deck, at all.
Nowadays I only open football product. What I've notice in the recent product is a complete lack of creativity in the inserts. It seems that the card companies are content to throw in a few autos or jerseys in a box and call it a day.
Looking back I can see why the 1990's inserts are so popular, the design and uniqueness of the cards are attractive to collect. I should have kept mine instead of blowing them out on ebay 10 years ago.
Now I wish a company would do an autographed insert set using a NFL shield are a die cut background.

IMHO I think Upper Deck will go bankrupt before they regain a MLB or NFL license.
Yes I know their history very well. My point is they produced some great products over the years. The 1989 set is what got me back in the hobby after a long absence. I certainly dont condone their shady business practices. Thats why I stated I wished they could put their house in order.
I used to believe Upper Deck would go bankrupt. Since they haven't yet, I think they'll be around. Currently, they have hockey, collegiate releases in the NFL and NBA. They also have golf once again. The retro set in basketball was ingenius, however, they are already getting greedy. I dont like their presell prices on Retro baseball and football as well as the new Exquisite basketball coming out. I think they have a solid niche on college that can be maintained but they aren't going to gain new customers with the ridiculous presell price increases. Sure Jordan autos may be one pre case but blahh...its still a college card.

Type "Upper Deck Lawsuit" in Google and it is evident that the top product being produced in Carlsbad is billable hours. They are living on gimmicks right now, no full range card company can expect to survive without a license from MLB, NFL, or the NBA. If they scale down to a Press Pass type company, they may keeping going as a niche company.
Upper Deck has taken the designs of another company whose rights they bought and tried to remake great cards (I've read that the originals looked better) and are milking it. They are doing a football Retro release and surely will do basketball again next year and make the price higher as well. This year's basketball set included a new color of Precious Metal Gem that never existed before and they increased the print run of another color compared to the original. In the old days, these inserts were hard to get. People opened boxes just to find one and now, you can find them all in one box. It happens with every card type that gets hot. Remember when jersey cards and autographs were very rare finds? You can now buy products with them guaranteed per pack and now they aren't worth as much. I think the same will happen here. I wish Upper Deck would embrace the current collegiate players and try to emulate what Press Pass did--put out rookie sets and Legends with very few if any redemptions (and PP honors expired ones) and on-card autographs. Funny, collectors will eat those up but UD still does stickers a lot. This Retro product was delayed for nearly a year and it was said it was done to eliminate redemptions but they still had some in there.
In the basketball world this is a very special card without the autograph. Its hard to describe. Its a very exclusive insert to begin with. I am not sure how to translate the baseball equivalent since no insert set or player in the late 90's jumps out at me.
