Does TrueView add value to coins?

RYKRYK Posts: 35,799 ✭✭✭✭✭
Last question before football...and then baseball.

Can the TrueView image add value to a coin? How about other professional imaging? If yes, which adds more. Can either subtract value?

I most definitely think it does add value to have a coin trueview shot... But has to be a quality coin to start with or the up close and personal professional shot will show every little fault... I`ll add that the trueview shots have definitely evolved since the start up from very nice shots to absolutely amazing shots...

    I think it does.
I may bid a bit more knowing a TrueView is included.

no but an argument for increased liquidity can be made as the old adage of "Better pictures = better monies" when it comes time to sell holds true in the internet age.

I don't know if it can add value, but it can certainly drive up the price on a venue such as ebay.

Doesn't add value to the coin, but can make it easier to sell.

Also, TrueViews can be hit or miss...sometimes they give the coin a cartoonish look.

NO......a coin is what it is. It is nice to have a good pic that shows the coin as it is.

Any good picture can add to the sales price and therefore value, by clearly showing what the coin can look like in hand, tilted at the right angle in the best light.

this is especially true of "three degree toners" where there is one specific angle and bright light at which the rainbow appears and coin does NOT look dirty grey-brown.

I can see a slight value addition as it costs about $25.00 or so for most to get that quality of image when it comes time to sell.
Many who say no probably don't sell very often.
Also the higher value coins it may not make as much of an add as they are normally bought on approval.

  • As a collector, I will buy a coin with a true view over a similar coin of the same grade without a true view.

Any good picture will help or hurt, depending on the coin. A PQ coin might benefit. A problem coin may suffer.

I agree with the above and was going to write similar but, since it was already said, I will just agree.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • It's been my experience that an attractive, high quality photograph such as TrueView makes a coin easier to sell. I can't say that this necessarily translates into more money, but in my mind salability is value in another form.

I have never bought a coin at auction from a trueview picture.
They just do not look like it would be the same in hand.

Agree with this. I am very old school, and I won't even bid on a coin which is going for over a nominal amount unless I see it personally, or have at least one person (preferably two people) I trust look at it for me.

Close to ten years ago, I learned the pitfalls of viewing images of coins and not the coins themselves (and didn't lose a cent in the process). As good as an image may be, you really need to see the coin. Caveat emptor.

Yes. A coin that images well, sells well
