Paypal/ebay shipping defaults to third party insurance that does not cover coins

Brought this info over from the coin forum for those that use ebay/paypal shipping:

Note that if USPS label is now purchased on line through ebay or paypal you will be dealing with a third party insurancecarrier that does not insure coins, even though you purchased a USPS label. You are no longer buying USPS postage directly from USPS when you purchase it through paypal or ebay. You are contracting with Ebay Inc Shipping to use USPS for delivery only and to use Interstate Fire and Casualty Co. for insurance coverage. Best to know what that coverage is.

Edited to add: It has been pointed out that on the paypal shipping page there is a drop down box that allows you to choose USPS insurance. Note that you need to do this each time you purchase coin insurance in paypal.

I thought you could choose between ShipCover an Usps when shipping through eBay.
While your only option is Usps when shipping with PayPal.
Did they change that? (sorry, haven't sold lately on eBay)

I shipped yesterday and was able to buy USPS insurance through the Paypal website. Shipcover is the default insurance, but, it's not the only choice.

If you're insuring coins, best to purchase online shipping labels directly from the usps.com website where you get usps.com insurance coverage - or just go to the post office and wait in line. >>

This is false, at least when I shipped yesterday. Shipcover is the default insurance; but, you can select USPS insurance through Paypal.

Heck, I shipped today and had no problems purchasing USPS insurance...(ShipCover is another optional insurance carrier and unless you decided to change the parameters to use them instead of USPS, I guess you're SOL.)

You are correct. I found the drop down box to select USPS insurance. My bad. OP corrected.
