George III SHilling Newp, Raw
I just got this one in from an auction in the UK, quite pleased with it in hand. I was looking for an upgrade for the 62 currently in my set and I think this one will make it.

The prices across the pond seemed pretty strong, two other shillings I was bidding on I got blown away, even though my bids were about 50% over the highest reference prices.

Did it come from the DNW auction? I thought they had a lot of really nice shillings there. It was a shame it was too close to the Heritage auction, because I otherwise would have bid on a couple. The 1850 pieces they had looked pretty nice. - certainly better than mine.

<< <i>Yes it was from DNW, they had quite an extraordinary run of shillings in the sale. Unfortunatly my bids on the two I really wanted got blown away. >>
You shouldn't be too surprised. The 1818 booked at half today's price 25 years ago (£95 EF against £200). You can probably say that less than 10 have come on the market in the last decade including the undesirables. That's a big gap for a lot of people as there are more than a few shilling collectors out there. I thought the 1818 reasonably priced trending towards the cheap given the disparity between availability and demand. The person who got it is quite chuffed.
