1919 Buffalo nickel NGC MS-WHAT??

crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,055 ✭✭✭✭✭
I purchased this piece a while back on line listed with E-bay. This Buff has the assigned grade of MS-64 and started the bidding off at .99... Well, I won this coin and I must say every time I look at it I think to myself what a great purchase I made.. I'm sure it's closer to 65 than a 64. It's housed in one of those older NGC slabs. Now I don't know how you feel about this piece but I think it's just as nice as it gets for eye appeal strike and luster. This is a very sharp Buff and I wish I could find more of em. So, what do ya think of this one? Do ya think if I submitted this Buff to pcgs it would receive a 65? Thanks for looking and your time....CHD

Yowza - surprised NGC didn't give it a * either, for superior eye appeal.

If it's an older NGC slab, it may be pre-*. Sure deserves one though.

Great looking coin. It will bring in the correct money when its time to sell no matter what the holder says.

    Joe,
Great look --solid strike and wonderful toning. My only question mark is that from the image, there is the possibility of high point friction on the reverse (see above and around the horn, for instance). You have it in hand and can quickly tell. If there's no wear, it looks like an upgrade. Really nice coin regardless of grade. And great photo.image

  • It deserves a 65 or 66 no doubt, but I would bean it to save the old plastic.

It's a very nice coin but I don't think it could go GEM. The toning just has too much brown and the luster on the reverse doesn't seem strong enough. Definitely a solid 64 though.

I can't locate any rub on this piece. Possibly a tad weaker in some areas on the reverse but I've seen worse in higher grades. Thank you for the complement on my imaging.....Joe

Another beautiful Buff. Would you expect anything less when you open a CHD thread? Hardly.

I think the CAC idea is a winner.

    NGC64 with a GOLD BEAN.............name your $$$

Gotta think it should go PCGS MS66, or 65+ at the least.

I've got two 1919 toners and yours is far superior to both.
