hey guys, I will try to make this short and not too ready. I will work backwards a bit from current times. today my sister, brother, niece and great nephew will be driving from Chicago to Las Vegas to meet up with the boys for their Birthday. My two "great nephews" were born on the same day and were extremely close and saw each other everyday and went to the same school. This will be the second time they will have seen the boys since her murder on March 6th. They recently were reunited for the 1st time on Dec 26th. They were given a couple hours for a supervised visit at an ice rink. It wasn't nearly enough but it was long over due and desperatley needed for my sister who is fighting desperately for custody. (Remember that the killers sister has custody of the boys and lives in California) On FRi. the 11th of January we had a crucial court appearance to determine the juristiction of the custody battle, if it was going to be here in Illinois or in California which they were trying for. Well we won, and juristiction will be here. In fact the court is appointing a counselor to meet with the kids to see how they are doing and sending someone to my sisters home to make sure it is a fit home. On Mon the 7th the murder trial had another routine hearing, however a new judge was appointed and a new prosecuter (which I don't like, I want 1 person who knows the case like the back of their hand) Before this there was a lot of back and forth, court appearances that didn't amount to much but a paper shuffling money drain. Back in October, my sister was forced to fly to Las Vegas to make an appearance in a California court regarding the hearing. We were unable to secure an attorney that was willing to appear for us for a continuance for less then $1500. It was cheaper to fly her to Cali. herself and appear she did. At the hearing she was able to speak the sister for the first time which was a blessing in disguise. While things are still incredibly tense and on shaky ground there is now at least some dialogue. His family feels we should be supporting him and are completely in denial that he murdered my niece. They are very resentful towards my family and expect us to influence the prosecution on his behalf. My sister received an email message from the sister in Cali after the Murder hearing on the 7th. the following is a copy of her message to my sister Until George's criminal case is completed, our entire family will be under tremendous pressure. All of us, including you I trust, believe in George's innocence and know that he lost his wife, best friend and mother of his kids in a tragic accident. He suffers every single day as I know you do. Unfortunately, until George's criminal case is resolved and the prosecutors realize that it was a tragic accident and drop the murder charges against him, George will continue to be under tremendous pressure and will be unable to focus on making big changes to the custody of the children right now. If the criminal case is resolved favorably, I am certain that George can once again focus on the custody of the children and I am sure he will want you to be very much involved in their lives. Our family is trying to support George in this matter to make him as strong as possible because he has been through so much it is indescribable. We have all lost a big part of our lives with Michele and don't want to lose George as well. The boys need their father more than ever and we need to make him strong for his sons.
Sounds like an ultimatum that IF the murder charges are dropped and the outcome favorable we will be able to see the boys. But if it is not resolved favorably then something else may be the result.
Anyway, I want to give you guys a little update, we still have a very long road but it was a small victory. You guys made this possible, the one day trip to cali couldn't have happened without the money you guys helped with. I just want you to know what a huge impact you've made, however large or small a donation you made or if it was a prayer you gave, it is paying off. here is a link to the latest court coverage locally news paper article
Congrats on the Victory! My family will continue to keep you and your family in our prayers and hope that you continue to receive favorable news in the future.

Awesome!!!!!!! Great to see how a internet group where most have never even met, can help out one another
I can't stress enough how blown away I have been by this group. My sister doesn't have much, but she has heart and she has fight. I am incredibly proud of her and of the members here. You didn't have to help. You don't know me and you especially don't know her. This is one of the most unreal stories I can imagine. If it were not for being directly involved it would be hard to make up. Never in a million years did we expect things to play out like they did. I am hopeful for the future but scared at the same time. If we do not win, this will take my sister too. There is a lot riding on this battle.
Looks like he's had about 20k in sales in the past month.
His donation website states that 2.7k has been raised and the goal is 5k.
I guess I'm heartless to question why he is asking for donations from the members here. There are guys here selling their cards in order to donate the money to him. None of that 20k gets donated?
I will respond to your comment. I asked for help on behalf of my sister. My sister works 30 hrs a week at Jewel food store in the deli. She lives a very modest lifestyle. The cards I sell help support my wife and 2 boys, one is getting ready for college. I do not have the means despite what you may think, to fund this battle on my own. My niece did not have life insurance and the killer and his family who claims it was an accident has not paid a dime of her funeral expenses. The funeral bills alone were just under $13000. The funeral expense was split by myself and my brother. Please do the math on that. I have not had 1 interaction with you and you feel the need to do this? I am a 39 yr old man who goes to work everyday and buys and sells cards as a 2nd income to help make ends meet. My sister is 49 yrs old and also has a Son who is dying of kidney failure (if you must know) that she helps to support that formerly lived with my niece. You are ignorant and hide behind a keyboard and you are sad. Every dime of this money has gone into a fund at Archer bank here in chicago called "miracles for Michele" In fact I personally wrote a check to the account yesterday for $450 because the account was getting low. Don't claim to know what I am going through and God forbid you ever do. Shame on you.
It is funny, a board member last night made an incredible donation, so much in fact I thought it was an error. I called my sister today to tell her to let her know there was an incredible donation. Funds had been getting low and she has been even more stressed. She wept and said "that is so nice, I just can't believe it, there are truly good people out there." The board has been incredibly generous, I knew they would be but have been humbled by how much. I will do what I have to, to get this to the finish line. I have no idea how many court appearances it will take or how much money and if it falls completely on me, I guarantee you I will not fail them. I have asked for help for my sister and this board answered the call.
Maurice, Please do not post on this thread anymore I consider it an insult to my nieces memory.

Thoughts and prayers continue to go out, my friend.

Having said that, it seems inappropriate to be asking for donations when it appears you're doing ok financially.

Brilliant insight, Maurice. A few grand per month on eBay, this guy is rolling in the benjamins.
And thanks for a link to the overpriced BINs that never sell as a proxy for net worth. A+
