  • There is a dealer on the coin circuit who has been hauling around a NJ Copper in a PCGS holder with a melted insert for years.

It apparently happened when sitting on a dashboard (no idea of the temperature, or circumstances, or security implications of putting a coin on your dash).

I'm sure one of our members will test an OGH in the oven with a meat thermometer and give us the answer, but it won't be me. I'm not a lab guy image

Halogen lights used for photography will melt a slab if left unattended...

Not sure of the exact melting point but Lakesammman if you send me a sample slab I'll test it! image

Not sure, but years and years ago I set up at a swap meet
here in Southern Cal and it was about 90' degrees or more
and I had a few early proof sets in Capitals sitting in my allstate
case and it just warped the hell out of them and melded the
plastic nut and bolts together, it was'nt a pretty lessonimage

    Steve

Thinking back it was probably more like a 100' degrees in the direct sun

I had some dimes go that route made the mistake of sitting them on the floor about a foot from the baseboard heater in a apartment I lived in for a while. They were in a blue PCGS box and it did not hurt the box or burn me when I picked them up. So it does not take a great amount of heat, BTW sent the 96-W in for re-holder and it 's as good as new now.

i don't know, but at that price, i'd leave it on the table. i'd be into it for about $750.
  • stevebensteveben Posts: 4,635 ✭✭✭✭✭
oh, they won't take 750 for it. oh well.

This returned home like this after a lengthy photo contest. Probably caused by an extended layover under the lights.
