Agh! Oh well. Would love to have that coin in a rattler -- I just like 'em. They take me back to when PCGS started, around the time I got my first summer/after school job, in the coin shop.

Why hide the grade and serial number on a slab that you are going to destroy? I bet that slab is still undamaged.

If you think your rattlers are under-graded, why not submit them for regrade? Otherwise, the holders don't fit in any of the storage boxes, and they do not look right next to the new holdered PCGS coins. It puzzles me why anyone would want them. I bid less for coins in the rattler holders simply because I don't want the hassle of sending them in for reholder. I simply do not understand why anyone would want the old PCGS rattler holders. Guess it is just another way to collect coins.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

The first generation rattler slabs are part of the history and legacy of the coin collecting hobby. For every bidder that bids less for a coin because it's in a rattler slab, there are probably a dozen that will bid more because it's in a rattler slab. As more and more of these old slabs are destroyed, the remaining population of these vintage slabs will shrink making them collectible in their own right. I realize that not every coin collector cares about old slabs but there is a significant population of coin collectors that do care and appreciate their history.

About half a dozen, I think. During the past 5 years, I have purchased about 2 dozen Rattlers total, but cracked out ca. 75% of the coins (which are still in my collection, but raw).

15-20. I'm surprised more collectors don't value the stability of coins in rattlers. I don't think I've ever submitted any cracked or for regrades. Lance.

As stated several times in the post chain here, I think that many experienced collectors, particularly of Red and RB copper, appreciate coins of this nature in the rattlers. I have 3 and I wish I had more. I had one regraded years ago, and although it upgraded, I regret doing it. I was younger and stupid. Not to steal the rattler thunder but I also value the R & RB copper in the old NGC fattie holders as well. Give me a stable red coin that hasn't been messed with in 25 years and I will pay a premium for that. Good thread.
Maybe a little over 100 with all kinds of flavors but mostly Walkers. I was lucky and bought Several of the storage boxes kind a cheap before they went up. The Walker Shot Sets I Am building look nice and fit good. Sure do like them and the neatest is an ASE in a rattler I have.
I have about a half-dozen, but they are the new prong holders not the ones to which you're referring.
Check your prong holders, folks. If the coins aren't placed exactly right by the machines, they will be leaning forward/backward on the sides of the holder and some rattle.

The slabs are assembled by humans rather than machines and vibrations (especially in transit) can cause them to rotate in the slab. You can rotate the coin back by tapping the corner of the slab on a hard surface like a wood table.

Thanks for the shout out, Mozin.
And you'd better keep an open mind about rattlers, because I'm bringing several of my favorites for show-and-tell at the PNNA show next week!
