Platinum:Which Way Is It Going?

And why? Are the Chinese suddenly going to need a couple hundred million catalytic converters because they're adopting even stricter emissions than California? What say you about the white metal. You like? You no like? What's the story behind platinum. Wasn't it more valuable than gold? What happened, and will it go higher again?

I just got some platinum in as part trade and I'm debating what to do with it and need counsel

Nearly every metal that isn't iron or iron related since the start of september is up. Also platinum has the trouble in South Africa affecting it and there doesn't seem a quick resolution for that

Scrap catalytic converter prices have not benefited from the big rise in platinum and paladium prices as yet and in fact they seem to be dropping still. That tends to lag spot but it still makes me wonder a little.

I hope so cause I got these beautiful reverse proof (pre-2004, yes!) eagles that can always soar higher!!

As far as predictions based on demand, shortages, or strikes, I hope so, too....

I wouldn't look toward new car sales for a surge in platinum demand. I don't see speculators driving it up any time soon for this very reason. I think in the short/intermediate term it will drop.

South Africa Lonmin strikers accept pay rise offer.....

    Link

I suspect that will drag the price down.

Plat, Pall. & Rhod. ... all down, but that was to expected when the strike settled.
