request a pic at a slight angle. Keep in mind that color can be easily "off" with digital pics.

Looks like a well circulated early example of a Liberty double eagle (type 1 or 2) in an older PCGS slab (no prongs). We need better pics to determine how original it is but it appears to be a fine example of a lower grade Liberty double eagle.

My scanner tends to do that to worn gold.

There is some white balance problem with that image the ring should not look like muddy water. I's mostly clear and that looks to be a white background behind it.

I think the image is from a scanner, which may partially explain why it looks so odd to you.

I found my own picture of a well circulated $20 to have a similar look:



They don't have much luster at this point, throw in marginal lighting and a slightly off white balance and you've got a greyish looking gold piece.

Edit to say, it actually looks a lot better in hand, it's just hard to get the picture to look like the coin in hand.

I do like the way the toning creates a bit of contrast around the devices....
