One can't help but wonder if such a coin hasn't already quietly been passed into the hands of a private collector.
or worse, been melted.

it is ironic you post that. i was just thinking that about the rumored coins thread where the coins actually existed and made into private citizens hands but the people that received/stole/inherited etc those items either didn't know any better/didn't care/in a hurry/item too noteworthy to sell
SO
the items just get melted for bullion
Unless it was on a counter and accidentally fell into the garbage (sorry
I actually thought I found the coin at the long beach show as a dealer had an xf45 in his case. When I asked heritage (whom had it stolen) what their coin graded and if it could be the missing coin, I was told I was not the first person to ask them about it and theirs was an au58 not an xf45
What makes you think the coin still resides in the slab?
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
It was on its way from PCGS to Heritage? Why would it be coming from PCGS if it's in an NGC holder? I can see it being stolen en route *to* PCGS in the case of a crossover submission, but...
