WTB low grade PCGS 1876-CC Double Die Reverse Trade Dollar

Howdy all! I'm looking for a nice looking low grade (F-12 to EF-45) 1876-CC Double Die Reverse Trade Dollar graded by PCGS without any problems or "details" listed on the slab. Eye appeal is very important. Normal circulation is fine. Thanks. Send a PM with what you have. I'm new on the coin side, but I have references from the currency side. Thanks...

That's a hard coin to find, but be patient and one will come along. Good luck!

Here's a PCGS AG3 I picked up recently, for reference. Lower than what you're targeting but to show you they are out there and not always attributed.

I'm not quite as optimistic that simple diligence is going to get the job done for you. I just recently sold my AU58, I've owned and sold several over the years (including one slabbed by PCGS XF45 years ago) but my experience is that the 'no probelms' coins are going into 'black holes' and aren't coming back out.. A quick check of the pop reports shows PCGS has graded a grand total of 11 coins in the grade range your looking for. For a tough coin, that definately requires some optimism to hope that one is going to become available on the public market where you can get a shot at it. If one does...don't expect to get it on the cheap. If it is truly trouble free, the price guides will not help you. Good luck!

Greg, I agree with most of what you said although the pop reports don't always match up with availability on this one. I've found it harder to find nice 75-S/CC than nice 76-CC DDR's, even though the pops are much smaller on the DDR. The over mintmark must be more desirable.

FWIW I know of an original looking NGC AU50 76cc DDR for sale at this moment, just sent a link to the OP. Not sure if it's exactly what he/she is looking for, but it can't be far off.

Also, congrats on your recent sale Greg, that went quick!

Thanks for the words of encouragement and the link you sent. I checked out your link for your hub type and variety and all I can say is "WOW!" Very nice collection!

  • This one just sold on Ebay for cheap-ish money most likely because it isn't 100% original but I am sure it is nice enough. It is a pretty cool coin that is a worthy addition to a coin set and as a major naked eye doubled die and a large rare CC how can one go wrong. Dan is being modest showing off his AG3. He also has one of the finest known (MS62+ & SP holder) which I will take the liberty to show below. hope he forgives me image
