Which Erving Rookie is Better BVG 9 Versus PSA 9 *Scans Included*

Ok Here are two cards I am looking at purchasing one of them and I need everyones help. I am leaning toward the BVG 9 but for some reason the yellow color looks off. Also do most people think this will cross over to PSA? I had success with my Bird Magic Rookie BVG 9 crossing over.

Thanks for all your help and opinions!

  • Centering appears to be much better on the BVG.

you've got a good track record crossing over BVG.

  • Eric...I am just concerned about the color difference. Seems the yellow is faded a little on the BVG. Does that bother you? Or anyone on here? I am not sure this will effect grading with PSA. Thanks!
  • Could just be the picture that's being used, the lighting when it was taken, stuff like that.

look at the black trim, it doesnt seem all that much lighter on the BVG

  • Yeah I have seen two scans from two different scanners of the bvg card. I am sure it is an accurate color difference. You are right the black looks good and the red looks brighter than the psa card.

the BVG looks to have sharper corners and the better centering, both lack the print defect by the elbow too which is good

but I don't like the cut on the bottom of the card under 'forward', it looks like it tails up and is not square??

maybe why it's in a BVG slab?? image

both are nice cards but I would pass on both
  • I prefer the PSA version. The yellow appears bolder on the PSA graded card.
The BVG card appears a little washed out. Since both cards probably have
mint corners, I'd like the one with the better image quality.
  • Hey IntialD do you think the card has been trimmed? Wonder why it is like that? Could the card be sitting crooked in the case?

cant really say it's trimmed from the scan, as most of us have seen some examples of "factory miscuts" on older cards that are tolerable

makes me thinks of a 64 or 66 baseball card, almost none of those are square LoL!

it's still enough to bother me visually and probably the first thing to prevent it from crossing IMHO

edit to add: it looks to be square in the holder judging from the sides and top against the case

the bvg is a photo while the psa is a scan with slightly cranked colors, i said hands down bvg initially but missed the part of the card under forward, although the card pic was taken at a bit of a angle it still looks like something is going on there. i would also pass on both...

The BVG card looks short in the holder and also looks like it has less T-B border than the PSA card.
  • BVG by far
  • sad thing is the bvg would sell for $200 or more less than the psa

BVG from a centering standpoint. They both look faded in the scans.

    Thanks,

  • The BVG card is short, and with the perfect centering indicates it will come back MSR or EOT if you try to crack and resub.

I have no idea how much registration (I believe that's the proper term) counts in PSA grading, and using a photo versus a scan may make the difference, but the registration of the PSA card looks much sharper. E.g., look at the sharpness of "Virginia" on each card.
