I bought a collection - Opinions please

Hey guys,

I was wondering if I could get your opinions on a few things. I purchased this collection a few days ago and I'm looking to sell most of it to offset the cost. I'm not too familiar with modern cards however, do any of you have any opinions on the best way to sell? BIN, $.99 auction, Probstein, get a few graded? I just don't know much about it.

Also, how can you scan modern cards without that ugly glare?

Do any of these deserve a bump?

It all depends on what you have in it, how fast you need your cash back and if you set up at local card shows.

I am going to assume you bought a good deal, don't need to money too fast and don't set up at shows.

I would sell all the modern baseball ASAP via Probstein. The season is coming to an end and the prices drop in about a month.

Then I would take the Koufax and try to get it bumped or crack it out and sell it raw.

If you want to make a quick buck/in a hurry/don't want to mess with it/ and flip the modern in one transaction I would PM 1980scollector. He seems to like flipping things out in pieces. LOL

Love the modern stuff you picked up and time is of the essence with it unless you hang on to it until next season.

The 1955 SGC Aaron might bump...
  • That's a mighty nice collection. Just out of curiosity, where did you find the seller?
I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.

Really? With parts of the red ink missing from the three A's and the R in his name?

    I agree with Lee.

edit: there are some fantastic cards there. I sent a heads-up to a guy on another board regarding your Andre Ethier card.

They are missing because he used the "dust removal" feature on his scanner....I bet if he turned that feature off, those would "miraculously" show back up....I know everyone here thinks I don't know anything, but some stuff I do.........

Note the "A"s in Juan Marichal.....this is with Dust Removal...notice how they are filled in....

This is with Dust Removal turned off......notice how the A's open back up......

    You're welcome.....
  • I'd buy THAT for a dollar !

    (name the movie)

That is one strange lot from a single seller, but is indeed very very cool and wish I had it.

Thanks for the compliments, I have a few PM's that I'll get back to.

The ink is missing because of my scanner's "dust removal" feature that I always forget to turn off, besides the centering, I think it would easily cross.

Edit to add: I'm looking at the Koufax and there seems to be a heavy indent/partial pinhole in his hat. It doesn't go all the way through, but it is noticeable on the back.

  • Am newer here, and my be confusing what I remember, but if this Bobby is the VCP Bobby then most of you should bow and listen. That guy built something I'd love to have done. Totally cool on the effort and congrats to the continued success. Confirmed. If I were him, I'd laugh at any burns, but accept the continued feedback on what is required, as is with ALL companies. It seems that guy has done, and continues to do so. You got better?

If this Bobby aint that same Bobby, then stfu Bobby. BUt yes, the movie was Robocop.
