The fine print! Ebay is at it again!

I'm sure many of you got the email about opting in to "Managed Returns". You get an additional 5% discount on top of the 20% discount. Of course, it appears to me that there is a catch. I read through all of the details and NOTHING is mentioned about what I am going to post below. However, I did suspect this very thing. Here is the fine print beside the button to "Opt In".

"By opting into the new managed returns process, you acknowledge and agree to its terms and conditions, and you authorize eBay to include any return shipping charges and autorefund amounts on your invoice as a fee which may be charged to your automatic payment method on file, if any; and acknowledge that eBay Buyer Protection—as amended from time to time—has special provisions to accommodate a claim in an item is returned through eBay's managed returns process and a timely refund is not issued."

In other words, it looks like to me that sellers will be forced to pay for return shipping instead of the buyer paying for it. Looks like there will be many, many more returned items now. Right now, I never have any returns.

managed returns. LOL. so they wanna give back my shipping charges now? how about last year when they accused me of returning too much bad stuff and threatened to sanction my account? i sent every frikkin card back at my own expense. and got spanked.

this year i've returned 3 items. and i still paid the return shipping.

i'm glad they finally realize that the buyer is still getting shtupped out of a couple extra bucks any time they get misled by a seller. why did it take so long to figure that out? [/eyeroll]

This is one of the many reasons why I have become a buyer on Ebay only. There are other avenues available in which to sell that I find Ebay just doesnt fit for me any more.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
  • This is how they change policy- they offer an incentive to switch to a new, less appealing policy, then a few months down the line they pull the incentive. In about 6 months all sellers will be paying return shipping and wondering how the hell that happened.

Exactly. It will not be an option in a few months.

Outside of the fraudulent cases or buyers remorse, there is absolutely no reason why the buyer should be stuck with the return shipping costs when it's the seller's fault for the return.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I don't think I've ever had a buyer return a card they bought from me on Ebay.

The buyer is already covered on return shipping charges if they go through the ebay system. It has been that way for some time now. Most of the time ebay will cover the return shipping charges but sometimes they do charge the sellers account. I don't know how they decide who covers the shipping. Perhaps with this new amendment, the seller will always cover the the return shipping. I don't think there will be more returned items than normal though.

Ebay wants to be more like Amazon, so sellers should stop giving their stuff away for low prices. Every seller should list items at the min they will take for them. Only use the auctions for low dollar stuff you need to get rid of.

These policies only stink if you are not making any money. Since most of us are not huge volume sellers like PWCC or Probstien, we can't afford to take on the additional cost or risk of an auction.

The only problem I have is that ebay doesn't let me limit more bidders from high dollar listings.

    Ebay sucks
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • Another reason I too no longer sell that much if anything on Ebay and took matters into my own hands and developed my own site.

I quit worrying about all the rules to get their discounts. I used to sell 1000+ items a month but now only a handful.

Just waiting for something better to come along.
