The sharpness is VF-25, but the highest devices have been rubbed which give it negative eye appeal. It might be touch and go as whether or not it would get a slab grade.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I don't know anything about grading them, so I will stick with environmental damage, as an OPINION. I have no experience with that date, I might be inclined to think it was altered. It is a low mintage coin, although the 1844 gets the moniker and rarity. Regards, Mike

    My gut feeling is 25+ - 30 ... However, I don't collect them and
defer to my learnered colleague, Dimeman, who's considerably
more adept in grading these Seated Dimes.

Sorry Ebaybuyer, but your dime has more that just a little more wear than the XF45 shown. Look at the flat spots on yours on breast, legs and arm of Liberty.

Is that an 1848 with altered date? the 6 sure looks like a changed 8?

Vf35 to my eyes, the 6 in the date does look odd compared to the second picture shown as was already mentioned.

Looks reengraved in the chest to lap area, but it could look like that due to the scans and toning.

Definitely lower end VF details. Number-wise a 20/25.
