I dont go to local card shows too often cause its usually nothing but old, grumpy men that overprice their cards, and dont budge on prices at all. They dont make an effort to be nice to customers and have next to no people skills.

This type of behavior is just poor business. The few times I've been behind the table I've always had these thoughts in my head:
1. I try to greet every person in a friendly and thankful manner. The show goer has chosen to spend part of his day attending and I am thankful that he came.
2. I organize my table and showcases neatly so the buyer has a sense of what I have for sale. In addition I make a sign saying ( and I also do this upon greeting) "If you don't see what you're looking for please ask, as I may have it or know someone that does."
3. I try to visibly price items so the buyer has an idea of cost. However, I encourage the potential buyer to talk to me so we can see if there is some price we both can be happy with. After all, I want to sell the stuff I brought and the buyer came to the show in hopes of making some purchases. Those dealers who turn their head and gruffly say "That's the price" obviously just don't get it.
Unfortunately, there's not a class in how to be nice and as a lot of you have commented, a lot of dealers just don't have good people skills. It's too bad, isn't it?
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'WOW What a Ride!' Mark Frost
