Removing bezel from a $20 Saint

So I have this Saint, and it's in a bezel, and I don't want it in the bezel. I don't want to damage the coin any more than the small scratches it already has. Can anyone give me any tips or recommendations? Pics of the prong area. Sorry for the large pictures.

If it was me, and given what I can see from the pictures, I'd probably use some kind of wooden implement to try to bend the prongs back. Or maybe using tin snips to cut in several strategic places around the bezel.

I would ask for some help from a jeweler.

Agree. They have the tools to bend back the tabs without further damaging your coin. Just let the jeweler know that it's imperative that the coin not be further damaged and that the utmost care needs to be taken.

Good point, thanks guys, I'd like to have the coin as undamaged as possible and the bezel undamaged for possible future use, if possible.

I think it shows the date over on the BST forum.

Given the value of an ex jewelry coin, I'm not sure it matters.

A small wooden implement will bend back the tabs.

Take it to a jeweler and you could have bought a slabbed 63 coin

    LoL, 1927.

Segoja, I didn't buy it for myself, I bought it as bullion, but I do appreciate the advice.

I think I'd leave it in the bezel, enjoy it as jewelry and purchase another 1927 double eagle. If there are marks under those prongs, they will be quite distracting.

I've used a Dremmel Tool to cut the prongs off of a half dozen of such bezels. It takes a steady hand.
