Non- delivery of card from cu member on B/S/T board - advice please

Whats the protocol when you don't receive a card after sending payment for a sale done on bst board?

I contacted seller three weeks after they confirmed receipt of payment and said they would send card. No reply to my follow up three weeks later.

Do I post the name on the board of the deadbeat seller? I don't expect to get my money back but am pretty p'd.

Have had a lot of great transactions so far with board members - this non-delivery makes me a little wary unfortunately for next time.

Thoughts?

Sorry to hear about this. But it appears you are on your own.

    Good for you.
  • I used gift - didn't look but would have thought I couldn't dispute a gift?
  • I'm a fairly new poster on this board. Found the great majority to be kind, helpful and knowledgable. And also fair. My question is...how common of occurrence is this on the b.t.s board? I have never participated thru that board but am a little hesitant now.

Bigger question...why wouldn't u expect to get ur money back? Or possibly the item? How did u pay? Paypal, cash, check? There are def means to get ur money back. Also, for everyone here, what is the preferred method of payment on the b.s.t board?

    My first thoughts are

Was the deal done with a well known poster on the boards?

Did the person have references to make you feel comfortable doing the deal?

Is the person still on here or were they possibly banned? Seems a lot of recently banned peeps.

Based on those questions I think people on here are going to want you to out the person that you are unhappy with
to keep anyone else falling into the same pit.

I have done 3 or 4 transactions recently and never use gift, sometimes members get pissed or act surprised but I cannot risk using the gift feature.

I hope it works out for you. Please pm me the username.

  • I gifted the money. It was 25 bucks so i figured relatively low risk - member used same I'd as their eBay id so I checked that and it seemed ok.

I have contacted them twice more - if I don't hear back in 24 hours I will out them.

I jumped into bst pretty quick when I first signed up here and met some great peeps to do trades and transactions with. And I did deals much bigger than this. I guess I was lucky but in hindsight they were all people who posted a lot and are known on the board.

I just got unlucky with this one. I did use gift which stinks but I've paid and received gifts all other times so I gues it comes with the territory.
  • So what's the best way to use PayPal for a bst transaction?

I have had over 100 transactions with the guys here and never had one bad expierience. I have also used paypal gift the majority of the time. Typically it was with people I knew so it wasn't a big deal. If a new member came on I wouldn't pay via paypal gift but for people like CpaMike, Grote, 70stoppsfanatic, miconelegacy, Bporter, MBmiller etc... who are established guys on the board, I would not have an issue with it.

Absolutely have never had an issue. Don't know how many people I have here, but have never once not once had a problem. Most transaction in the $15-$85 range no biggie, but in absolute $$ value have done $2000-$4000 worth of deals.

I did an off line Ebay transaction for $150 recently on paypal through gift I think. Sent it delivery signed confirmation. Smooth as silk happy buyer.

Most people are great to deal with. If you are unsure send paypal direct with tracking.

I have found the board awesome to deal with and people great.

Dont let a deadbeat ruin it for us. Out the person when ready.

Go forth and trade. Caveat emptor always.

Be thankful it was only $25, and in the future do not send paypal gift to someone with 5 posts and no solid history on the boards no matter how bad you want an LT rookie.

  • Sorry this happened to you. Ive had a few transactions with paypal gift going both ways here and no issues so this kind of behavior is not the norm but at the same time is unacceptable and the seller should be outed as soon as youve lost all hope that you are not getting your item. Other members here I feel deserve to know so this doesnt happen again (at least not with the same seller)

It appears he is active on eBay--left feedback for one of his buyers yesterday.

Maybe contact him through one of his auction ask a question.

    Joe

Edited: If it is any consolation I probably would have done the same for $25 purchase.

I have also never had an issue with gifting to board members. I will say that I only do this with people who I can tell are very involved and currently active on the board or if it is someone I have done business with previously and had no difficulty in the transaction. I have made a lot of good friends here and have done a lot of selling and buying with various members. I guess I did have one hitch where I piggybacked on to a reholder sub with a board member and it took myself and the other people on the board who joined in the sub with him quite a long time to eventually get our cards returned to us. We all had to get nasty about it and never did get an explanation whatsoever why it took that kind of action to get our cards returned.
  • Lesson learned. Thanks guys. Now it's on to the next positive trade or transaction. Again I've had a lot of successful transactions like have been described here. Will not let this ruin my experience with a great forum. Thanks all!

If the quick detective work shows something, he only had 7 posts here and 21 feedback on ebay.

For 25 bucks its low risk to ship gift so really dont feel bad. I would say however start bombing him with questions on his current auctions and lets get some answers!

Doing good! Coming up on 5 months already. I can't believe it lol
  • We need to start another positive transactions thread, or bring the old one back. I think it got locked. We should start a new one though.

Almost all my dealings with members are gifts too. I just always make sure they've been around, and there are a few key people to ask that will give advice on most members. Some of the founding fathers here if you will.

Same guy "bought" a couple cards from me but never paid. Said he would send a check, I waited 2 weeks then tried to contact him again, waited another week, then gave up. Relisted the cards here on the BST board and they were gone within an hour with an instant payment. Didn't cost me any $$, but did cost me 3 weeks of not knowing what is going on.

If I had sent the cards at the same time he "sent the check" I don't imagine I would ever see the $$ or the cards again.

  • He finally replied today on eBay saying he sent on aug 7th. I'll check with my mail room again but I've gotten four packages since then and all packages are signed for when delivered. Even if lost in mail the total lack of follow up or attention to confirming delivery is not appreciated.

To me....silence is always a key to me that something is not on the up and up.

Is it wrong to just send someone the amount ...not gift plus 3% without asking??????

Typically, you won't run into major issues with fellow board members, especially if they're a long standing member. Just like in life, there's always a bad apple or two, but don't let that sour potential member deals going forward.

    Trust, but verify.
