My Top ANA Purchase: 1921 Peace with rainbow rims and a really nice strike
It took until the third day I was at the show before I found something that really spoke to me and was priced reasonably. I've always liked the high relief peace dollars, but they often come with a mushy strike, dull lustre, dipped surfaces, or a combination of those. This one is none of those, with a very strong strike for the series, strong lustre, and very attractive, original surfaces with colorful toning at the periphery, and a light golden shade throughout the fields. It's a PCGS MS64.

<< <i>Maybe I am wrong but I don't see 64, originality yes but not a near gem. I think the positive eye appeal of the skin and strike is off set if it over graded and with the amount of frost breaks and bag marks I just cant see it. I have been wrong before but I feel a coin can be all there at say the 63 level but a marginal 64 if it is over graded technically. >>
This was my first thought as well when seeing the coin. It is a beautiful coin and I would have no problem paying 64 money for it so I guess that's what the graders felt as well since they price the coin, not grade it technically.

You're right on about them always being dipped or messed with..
even on the one I posted, folks said it would look better dipped or "conserved".
they are TOUGH to find original.
Great color for a 21 Peace dollar. Or any Peace dollar.
