Damn could you post a link so we could read it?
I asked Joe last year at the National if he would consider doing a feature on Mike & his collection!
Mike told me before hand that he didn't he should have all that attention, lol.
    Was being much too modest!

Just read it as well. Nice job Mike! I would agree that this part of the hobby is definitely in it's infancy and you deserve a LOT of credit for it's exposure - even prior to this article. Signed complete set collecting has been a niche part of the hobby for quite awhile as well and I think you'll see that expand too.

Thanks guys! I saw it for the first time earlier this week. I was pleased with the way it turned out. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this community and for the comraderie and friendship here.

Special thanks to Joe O. for making it happen, and to David Laurell (the writer) and Jackie. It's a keepsake that my kiddos are going to love when they see it. I haven't shown them the digital version, I want them to see it in print. Maven and Max are going to think it's super cool that they are in a magazine.

I'm not smart enough to figure out how to post the pdf here, and don't know how to convert the pdf to a jpg where I could post it, LOL

Give me a few minutes and I will get these up for Mike. If the scans do not look great it is because I am printing them out and then scanning them in.

  • cubfan89cubfan89 Posts: 632 ✭✭✭
How did the feature happen Mike? Did Joe contact you after I spoke to him? I called it a while back that you should have your collection wrote about! I'm just glad it finally happened for you man!

Yes sir, but it's JSA/BGS slabbed instead of PSA. "Altered" is for the trim job.

What a great article Mike!! Your collection was one of the reasons I got into collecting signed rc's back in 2009. It is cool to finally see that PSA gave your collection the recognition it disserves. I'm sure your kids will get a huge kick out reading it when it comes out.

The Saddam is a "custom cut" that I had done back in 2009. Technically, it should be in a blue flip, rather than a red flip. The autograph is from an Iraqi administrative decree that Saddam issued back in the 80's. Before the war, Saddam was an incredibly tough autograph to get. You could usually only find him on official State presentation gifts, such as on presentation cards for gold watches, official state photos, etc. It was not uncommon that his signature would fetch four figures and more. Then, the US Soldiers uncovered several books full of these administrative decrees that were brought back from Iraq as souvenirs. I purchased some from a couple different soldiers, and I had mine translated by a language institute in Dallas, and they are just run of the mill decrees. The custom cut was made by inserting the autograph in between two authentic proset Hussein cards and cutting the window out of one of them. Basically, it's creating a mini-frame job on a card. Board member "TheHun" put this one together for me.

Interesting, how did it find it's way into a red holder then? And they gave it a 7 card grade..weird? Looks great though.

It's just a mistake. We got some wires crossed on a couple subs I had and this one card got caught up wrong. They treated it as a regular autographed card rather than as a "custom cut".

That Rube Marquard and the Cobb simply blew my mind. Very, very cool.

I also love your kids' specialized cards. I've seen a few before I may try one for my boy.
