Metal Detecting noob reporting!

I've "inherited" a metal detector from a neighbour as part of my payment for helping sell some of her antiques and odds and ends. It's a Bounty Hunter 'Bud' 1 She hasn't used it in quite some time. I need to get some 9 volt batteries for it, and I can't wait to test it out.

Any ideas on a fair value for this detector? And any good reference sites for a newbie to determine how to use this contraption? Thanks and looking forward to posting my finds!

Good luck.. be careful though, this could lead to a major addiction and substantial cost for new, high end MD's....image Cheers, RickO

Thanks guys, I can't wait to try it out for real. I tested it in the backyard a bit, played around with some settings. The "depth" seems rather lacking. To detect a silver dollar sitting on top of the earth I had to have the detector no higher than about 8 inches above it to get any reading at all. Is that normal?
