1889 washington inauguration centennial medal

I picked this up at a show today and I'm having trouble finding a value on it. On the envelope it said doug-44 I assume that is in reference to the douglas book but when I did searches I couldn't come up with any recent sales or offerings of the piece. It has a nice PL refective surface and the ribbon is in good shape ( looks better than the picture indicates ) Any idea as to value?

thanks for any Help
Ken

I have no idea as to value, but I really like it.

Looks great as it was really well preserved for a suspended medal. The 1889 Washington Inauguration Centennial was a pretty major event as there has to be at least close to a 100 different medals that had been struck. As far as value based on other examples I've seen in dealers cases I guess a retail of $125-165 is in the ballpark.

This is the variety of Washington inaugural centennial medal that you see most often. If this one were suspended on the official inaugural ribbon, it would be a big deal. As it is, not so much. Like this it is only viewed as a Benjamin Harrison - Morton campaign piece.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

These show up on eBay from time to time. Price is in the "double digits" range -- anywhere from $10 to $80, depending on the phase of the moon.
