While it might seem like Rose has signed a lot of stuff, as a player and afterwards, Rose was never really a good TTM signer. Usually TTM requests went ignored or were ghost signed by someone else. Also, there are a lot of really good Rose fakes (this is pre-Operation Bullpen) that came out when he was at the top as a player. Here are a few guys that come to mind that were were both good TTM signers, good In-Person signers and in the case of Feller, did a lot of s hows.
Bob Feller, definitely.
Bill Terry, though he died a while ago was also owner of a minor league baseball team, many of the teams documents, including payroll checks, made it out into the hobby and Terry was a lifeling incredible TTM signer.
Luke Appling and Earl Averill would not only sign everything you send them, they'd send along a signed picture as well.
huuuuum, Bob Feller . . . interesting as I remember sitting beside him at a minor league game in the mid seventies, it was almost annoying as he did sign for darn near everyone in that park.
Bob Feller has to be ahead of Pete Rose because he lived to be 92. Pete is only about 70. Nobody has done more paid autograph shows than Rose. He does one every weekend. 8 letters he cranks them out.
Dale Murphy maybe. I lived in West Palm Beach in the 80's when the Braves and Expos had Spring Training there. Murph would sign forever. I saw a guy hand him SEVEN identical photos and Murph signed them all. And he answers TTM too.
You may want to add 93-year-old Monte Irvin to this list, who is also an extremely generous signer and has been playing since the 1930's in the Negro Leagues. I think I have about 15 items signed by him just from the different times I met him and the donations I've made TTM.
Musial and Feller, for their longevity. Rose is up there too. Good thread.
kind of reminds me when I was in college sitting around the dorm with a bunch of guys drinking and telling Helen Keller jokes.....After about 20 minutes of everyone spitting them out, in a moment of silence one of the guys asked "Who is Helen Keller?"

<< <i>The difference between Feller and Rose is, Pete signed to feed a habit. Feller signed because he was a classy guy and an ambassador of the game. >>
Mark Fidrych probably didn't sign as many as Feller, but three years after his passing, it's surprising how many autographed items are still available.

I think a better question would be who was the best signer DURING their playing career? I heard Stan Musial was quite the signer.
