<< <i>Lucy unc is $966 at Mint's kiosk on the floor at ANA now. >>
Scoop them up! Likely inventory that was on hand when Lucy went dark on the Mint's website. The fact that they're still available means that most show attendees are not paying attention to the First Spouse series.
Too bad ... this likely results in the LH spouse mintage now exceeding that of the 08-W $50 Platinum burnished. If so, I believe that results in the loss of a huge selling point for the coin in the secondary market (at least in the short run).

Not necessarily . . . initial sales totals are often revised downward after returns and order cancellations are factored in. Also, we don't know how many unc. Lucys were available at the ANA - the number might be less than 10, which would still leave Lucy as the low-mintage champ (so far).
If both the Hayes and Garfield Unc coins were minted in the 2,200 range, there are still some variables to consider.
Demand wasn't that good for over an entire year, so the first strikings of the 2012 issues are likely not to deviate too far from that number of 2,200. If that's the case, there are some further considerations such as whether or not the Hayes and/or Garfield will remain the lowest mintages, and also whether or not enough buyers are around to continue loading up on another 4 issues of more coins that lack a large collecting base.
And finally, 2013 could still go either way in terms of mintages and demand. I favor low mintages, but as we've seen before with the Burnished Plats, nothing is assured.
Then again, no matter how you slice them, it's still gold.

It looks like it's about 10 under according to the last reports. Basically neck and neck. That said, the platinum design is farrr better, IMHO.

Kiyote: And, 4 years later, the 08-W $50 platinum is fetching about $1400 net in 69 grade (I saw a coin offered on ebay for $1,499 BIN the other day that had not sold at the point I looked at it).
So, with close to a $1,000 price tag already on the LH from the Mint $966), you can see my point about trying to come UNDER the 08-W platinum mintage rather than exceeding it.
But, as always, just my 2 cents.

I'll venture a possibly dumb question- is the reason the Lucy Hayes number jumped this week (+91) before it went dark is because they included what they took to sell at ANA?
<< <i>I'll venture a possibly dumb question- is the reason the Lucy Hayes number jumped this week (+91) before it went dark is because they included what they took to sell at ANA? >>
That's entirely possible. It's also possible that a flood of last-minute orders came in after the coin went to backorder status on the Mint's website.
There have been occasions in the past when the initial "sold out" totals included orders that the Mint was unable to fulfill due to inventory depletion. The "final" totals, often showing up a year or more later, were then adjusted downward to account for these unfilled orders.
So the 91 additional Lucy sales last week may include coins that were never struck and will never be shipped.

Ebay a MS70 non FS Lucy sold for 1995. The market is bouncing at the moment. Put a BIN up and hope for the best Saw a MS69FS sell for 1895 yesterday I think.

What if, no "what if" it's pretty much guaranteed to come in under the hayes. Plus Lucretia looks like the Borq Queen from Star Trek, so it probably has more upside.
That is too funny that they are down to $1,500/set now ... they could have just sold those 152 sets raw back then for $1,400 per .... 18 months ago and moved on. Too bad the pops were destroyed literally overnight.
I agree with you .... at $1,200 I start to get mildly interested again. Well ... maybe $1,100

Get in and get out quick. The gold haag series will continue to FAIL as no one is interested. The numbers will go lower and those seeking the real low mintage key will always be looking at the next issue....could it go lower?
When they do go lower, it kills the previous issue's gains.
Guys - no one really cares about this long, drawn out series featuring the First Ladies. What a debacle for the USM - and a drain on resources that could be used to produce genuinely attractive and historically significant collector coins.....let's see more of the $20 HR's, and fractional Buffalo's. How about fractional ASE's or even collector version reverse design changes for the ASE and AGE one ounce.....

I doubt they are draining their resources with these. I do like the HR's and wouldn't mind seeing more of them. While it seems quite a few did not like Ed Moy at the mint it seems he put out some interesting stuff and wasn't even told to by Congress.

All these first spouses sure sell for a nice profit, I have purchased them all and if I were inclined to sell today I would net Big $$$. Every first spouse I own that is no longer for sale would sell for a nice profit today.
Looks like someone cleaned out the Mint Kiosk in Union Station of the Garfields. One up on ebay now.
Probably is a game of hot potato. But hard to even ignore a 2200 mintage no matter how unpopular. I know-the platinums with similar mintages are not doing well either. Gold at $140 over spot is not much too loose I guess.
As far as High Reliefs or Ultra High Reliefs, I would not be surprised if a HR ASE is offered within the next year. This was one of the options on the mint survey last year about yearly special ASE sets. I suspect it will be a hot item. Even more interesting if they made it half the diameter it is now. They may have to in order to get it minted. I wonder if they could use the special Gold UHR presses for these?
It feels like it's 1904 again. Are you going to get really low mintage commemorative gold from the mint or not? The coin commems of days of old were twice their face value. These are just about 25% above melt. Seems like a bargin to me.
