aclocoacloco Posts: 952 ✭✭✭
Correct me if I am wrong, but our host would remove this from the original holder to grade.....

Thoughts?

Based on the pics I'll wager 65.

EDIT:The cheek sure is clean, bigger pics would help.

Based on what I can discern on the smaller images alone, I would say 66 and possibly a 67... But I'd need bigger photos to be certain image

Oh, and yes, PCGS unfortunately will not grade in the GSA plastic image ATS will, but not our host... Wish it were different!

Real clean coin, but there appears to be a ton of frost scuff on the chin that extends to its underside. That's why I can't grade it higher than 64+.
    When in doubt, don't.

Looks MS65 from those pics. Do not remove from the holder for a 65. Leave it as is as
the value is enhanced by the GSA plastic, box and paperwork.

Booming luster is all over that coin so I would give it a NGC 66, PCGS 65.

I would have NGC grade it since they will keep it in the GSA holder.

Thanks everybody. Will advise when I have in hand and when this is shipped to a TPG.

It looks like a pretty clean cheek area to me, but like other have said, the scan is too small and maybe too low resolution to tell for sure.

I will just throw out a guess of MS65.

The pic looks like a 66+ grade.
    Seller`s shot? Hope they didn`t
    juice the image too much.

have NGC grade it since they will keep it in the GSA holder.

You would think PCGS would be on board with grading it in the GSA holder, seeing that their main competitor does.
I'm sure they have discussed this, what prevented them from going forward?

Exactly, PCGS would get a bunch of crossovers. Not sure why they will not give this a try it is a very good idea and big profit potential.

Without good pics the coin could be 63 or 66 since pics are hard to judge from.
  • Looks a little scuffy on the cheek and neck, and there's a slight disturbance above the motto. A great coin! I'd say 65, and that's somewhat rare in one of those holders.
Let's try not to get upset.

    Looks like a 65 with a shot at 66.

If you really want it graded, NGC will leave it in the GSA case.

Except for the chinline luster abrasion I would go 66 based on what I can make of the image but will have to go 64+ with the add for the nice luster.

Yeah ... don't remove it from the GSA holder. PCGS will crack it out, NGC and ANACS will leave it in the original holder. Nice coin!

Using numismedia GSA Morgan info as a guide...there is such a huge difference in pricing.....one grade makes a big difference.

    (MS61 thru MS66)
    1882 CC 234 240 263 300 538 1,880

    1882 CC PL 258 270 325 425 910 4,560

Obviously, if this will grade MS66 or MS66 PL, definitely hit a homerun. If MS65 or MS65PL....a long single.

Decisions....decisions. Will wait until this CC is in hand and go from there.
