To forgive is to free a prisoner, and to discover that prisoner was you.

maybe that's what the attraction is? maybe this is the heaviest one in the Lot the seller is speaking of, making it a one of a kind bar?
When you start getting into 1 of a kind stuff, people are obviously willing to lose their mind and pay stooopid money for it.
if that much silver was in the form of 1792 and 1802 half dimes it would be worth billions of dollars.
heck, even this years mintage of silver dollars is worth two to 10 times melt (or more) if it has a dragon on it, or if it has a lady and eagle in reverse proof.
likewise, the same amount of silver in that 1959 bar, if it were in a bunch of broken sterling jewelry and bend forks and spoons, would be worth less than melt.

Silve is just silver only if you melt it!

The lack of precision makes each one unique. I've seen these bars with all sorts of stamped weights. Some will find that attractive.

I seem to remember getting picked apart by rawteam1 awhile back on the subject. Can't find a thread after a brief search, but from what I remember about it he thinks silver is just silver...eventhough he was selling a Kook for Spot + a hefty premium at the time
<< <i>There are collectors for all types of Silver, Rounds and Bars of all flavors, just like their are of Coins, Cars and just about anything imaginable and probably quite a few that you would have never imagined. >>
And there is a market for everyone of those types of silver and the free market (ex: ebay) determines that price for a certain type of silver.

To most dealers, silver is just silver and most of those dealers want to move metal as quickly as possible. The only exception that I have been seeing since last year are the 1-oz Coca-Cola silver art bars. A few years ago, Coca-Cola bars could be had for .999 generic or perhaps slightly higher than .999 generic silver premium but now most dealers who recognize them will sell them for about ebay collector premiums. In my opinion, getting any Coca-Cola art bar for $10 over spot or less is considered a very good deal. Even then, I am sure that there are some dealers out there that will treat (and price) Coca-Cola silver art bars as "silver is just silver".
Generally speaking, I do not argue with anybody with anybody, especially a dealer, who thinks that silver is just silver because that just means to me that there is that possibility that I can find rare silver art bars for only .999 generic silver premiums.

Yes indeed. Maybe it should be CAC'ed!
