How Many DANSCO Albums are You Working on?

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,820 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have a Type Set and a Jefferson set I am working on plus a general album for misc. raw coins.
What DANSCO set(s) are you actively or passively collecting?

Also, do you crack out PCGS coins for your album(s)?

Wow, several. Work on one or two at a time, then change to prevent boredom.

I have bunches of stuff in Dansco type albums, and have cracked bunches of coins to add to them. I usually tape the label in the back so I can remember how they were treated in a past life. I was lucky enough a few years ago to buy 4 PCGS boxes of mixed date clad Washingtons in 66 for about $5 each. They helped that set along nicely. The plastic is hateful. I find large limb shears are easiest. I've got Lincolns, Jeffs, Roseys, Washingtons, Franklins, Kennedies, Peace dollars, Ikes, and SBAs. Starting in 1999, I just put away mint products in the original packaging. I also have a few sets in Capital plastic. They're cool to look at, but hateful to upgrade.

I'm not working on any. The impression I have of DANSCO albums is that they can damage coins due to rubbing against the acetate slides.

I had the Jefferson nickel and combination Mercury/Roosevelt dime Danscos when I was a kid. I sold off both of them a few years ago.

I'll never go to the trouble of putting together a low value set again. My time is too valuable now.

You know what they really need? Albums that fit slabs in 'em. Then you can have the best of both worlds! Album + protection of still being slabbed.

I've got seven or eight in total -- all the currently running series, plus Ikes and Frankies.

The only one I've cracked coins is for the 7070, and that's the only one I'm (semi-)actively working on.

I have several going as well:

    1) Standing Liberty Quarters (about four short of complete) in XF/AU
    2) Morgan Dollars (about 12 coins short) in BU. Five of the 13 missing will be AU. The more expensive coins I buy in PCGS slabs stay in the slabs. I have broken out several.
    3) Three coins short for Buffalo nickels in F/VF
    4) Lincoln Cents in AU to BU (AU in the super early dates, all else BU)
    5) Washington Quarters in BU (Now Complete)
    5) Barber dimes, quarters and half dollars

Just sold my 7160 and shipped it off today. My Walkers. I had 26 or 27 coins so I was just over halfway done. Somebody bought 20 of the coins- all the more common and affordable ones- and the album, so that leaves me with five better date pieces like a '21-S, '38-D, and so on. I had fun with them but it was always a casual set and I knew I'd be selling them within a year or two. It was just something to tinker with until I finished my Roman 12 Caesars set, which I now have. And now I've caught Greek Coin Disease, as you can see by the newp in my new avatar, so it was time for the Walkers to walk.

I might play with the 7070 again one day. That's the one US collection that I don't get as tired of. I'm find type sets more interesting anyway.

I am tailoring the collection to not have any RAW coins for the kids. Already at old and getting closer to ancient now.
Even at that there are over 500 slabs and I am still getting coins.

    Here's one for ya,

One of my customers comes in every single week, buys a brand new Dansco album of some kind, buys one coin to go in it, then a week later brings it back, and sells it back to the store, book and coin. Then repeats this process all over again the next week.

i am dead serious!! been doing this for about 2 years now. The guy is a teacher at a local high school

and get this, teaches pshyc, and economics

Wow, and I thought I was bad. At least I'll usually get halfway through one, and buy a few semi-keys and maybe a key date or two.

I completed a 7070 years ago and nothing since.

    Mike
  • Lincolns, Jeffs, Roosies, Washingtons to 98, Walkers, Franklins, Sacs.

Franklins, Roosies, and Jeffs are complete; Washingtons lack the 32S. Lincolns lack the usual suspects, as do the Walkers. Still need a 2006P Sac as well.

Except for the Sacs and the 32D quarter, all have been collected from circulation exclusively. Started in the early 60s on Whitman folders with my dad. (Obviously I'm doing the Danscos without the proof-only issues.)

Since they're all circs I don't worry about the slide friction--I would if I were trying to put together a registry set or other high-end type collection. I think I have more fun this way personally, and fewer worries. I enjoy seeing the coins in the albums--OCD for sure! image

Two. Well, one is complete (XF Lincolns 1909 - 2009). And the other is as complete as it's probably going to get (large cents...missing 1799 and 1793 liberty cap).

I got a 7070, but then decided to try the library of coin type album instead because it has all the flowing hair and draped type plus other types not included in the newer albums.

Actively working on a Jefferson set. 7070 isn't complete but have hit the big ticket items (older large cents and seated dollars) so is on pause for now. My walker set (F-VF for non-short set dates) is down to three dates, the 21-D predictably, but somwhat suprisingly the 23-S and 17-D obv. Buffalo set is complete. I've started the Liberty nickel series, but I've decided to keep those in the slabs.

The only Dansco I have is the 7070.
I started with cheap coins but I am trying to upgrade some.
It will take a while to complete it but it is a lot of fun!
I do crack slabs if they are cheap.

I have a finished Roosevelt(very nice and colorful!), Kennedy till 1998, ASE, Kookaburra(minus the 2003 and 2008), combined IKE and SBA, and Washington 1932-1998. Working on the Washington one atm. Still need 8 dates and yes, I'd crack them out, except the 1932DS, if the price was right.

Two I'm working on, a 7070 type set (1800-2000) that gets occasional upgrades, and Washington quarters (1932-1998) with proofs that is almost done, need about half of the first page.

Lots of Danscos. Sold complete MS sets of Roosies, Franklins, Kennedys, Jeffersons, and Lincolns (yes, someone bought the entire set in raw MS). Still have complete sets of MS IHCs; MS V-nickels; AU-MS Buffs; AU-MS Mercs; AU Barber dimes; MS Wahingtons; AU-MS SLQ; AU Barber quarters; AU Barber Halves; Walkers; XF Bust Halves (dates only), Date sets of XF Seated dimes, quarters and halves. Lately, I've amended my wasteful ways of breaking plastic and only do slabbed sets.

I bought a blank dimes book a little while back for Mercs + silver Roosevelts. I came across a Roosevelt set in a Harco album that desperately needs rescue and decontamination. I anticipate going through a lot of acetone.

Silver Eagles and various other world bullion coins in snappy holders instead of books as well.

I have completed the 7070 and Barber dime Dansco albums in the last couple years. I started the Jefferson nickels with my son, but he lost interest. I also have complete Wash quarters (silver only) and Franklin halves from my boyhood collection as well as a smattering of other incomplete Whitman albums. With my children, I am doing the Pres dollars in an Intercept Shield album. It ends at FDR, and I am contemplating ending there, too.

I have cracked out coins from PCGS holders for the 7070 and Barber albums.
